Sh Rabee`: Don't read the Qur'aan just for seeking blessings only

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

Shaikh Rabee ` Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee حفظه الله said:

Whenever you recite the Qur’aan, don't just recite it for seeking blessings only; rather, recite it, O my brother, so that you believe (in its Message) and act (on its commandments)!

Recite the Qur’aan so that you believe and act upon it, because this is what the Companions of the Prophet used to do. The Qur’aan used to be revealed amongst them in stages (or portions) and the Prophet used to teach them 10 Aayaat at a time. They used to memorize them, act upon it teachings, and believe in it (before they moved on to the other Aayaat).*

*[Note: Ibn Mas`ood رضي الله عنه said: “Whenever we used to learn  (memorize) 10 Aayaat from the Prophet ,  we did not pursue to learn the next 10 Aayaat which were revealed after it, till we understood the meaning of what we had already learned.” [al-Mustadrak of al-Haakim (1/743)]]

This is how the nurturing should be. But nowadays, one recites the Qur’aan from the beginning to its end without knowing the meaning (or the message that it conveys). They neither understand nor do they comprehend. And many of those who understand do not act upon it (except those on whom Allaah has mercy).

Qur’aan is in need of comprehension and understanding, it is in need of being obeyed and acted upon. By Allaah! Nothing has harmed us except for the futile claims, increased gossiping, and useless talking.

Many among us talk about Taqwa, and Allaah knows best about their own state. It is obligatory, O my brothers, that our actions should follow our speech.

This is not possible except through Ikhlaas (sincerity) towards Allaah تعالى in all your speech and actions, and by being well aware that Allaah تعالى is ever watching you at all times:

● In your prayers,
● In your shop,
● In your Masjid,
● At your school,
● In your car,
● Where ever you may be.

You should be remember that you have a Lord who is watching you, is witnessing you, is a Wakeel (Disposer of all your affairs), who knows your inner feelings, and what your lips utter, and what your hear conspires.

{And indeed We have created man, and We know what his ownself whispers to him. And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein (by our knowledge)} [Surah Qaaf (50): 16]
