Rulings on the Night Prayers in Ramadhaan.

Brief translation of Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen's " مجالس شهر الرمضان "

All praises are for Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. And peace and blessings upon Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions and all those who follow their path.

O my brothers! Verily, Allaah has legislated for His worship different acts of worship. He made some of these acts as obligatory, and it is not allowed for anyone to reduce from it any act or to breach it. Other acts are supererogatory, with which a person can get even more close to Allaah and which can act as a completion for the deficiencies in the obligatory acts.

Obligation of Fasting in Ramadhaan

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

All praises are for Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. And peace and blessings upon Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions and all those who follow their path.

My brothers! Verily Fasting in the month of Ramadhaan is one of the pillars of Islaam and one of its core foundations. Allaah تعالى said:

﴿يأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ * أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَتٍ فَمَن كَانَ مِنكُم مَّرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ وَعَلَى الَّذِينَ يُطِيقُونَهُ فِدْيَةٌ طَعَامُ مِسْكِينٍ فَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّهُ وَأَن تَصُومُواْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ فِدْيَةٌ طَعَامُ مِسْكِينٍ فَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّهُ وَأَن تَصُومُواْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ طَعَامُ مِسْكِينٍ فَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّهُ وَأَن تَصُومُواْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ  شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِى أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ هُدًى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَـتٍ مِّنَ الْهُدَى وَالْفُرْقَانِ فَمَن شَهِدَ مِنكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ وَمَن كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلاَ يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَ وَلِتُكْمِلُواْ الْعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُواْ اللَّهَ عَلَى مَا هَدَاكُمْ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ﴾ [البقرة: 183-185].

{O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the Fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqoon. [Observing Saum (Fasts)] for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can Fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to Fast or) to feed a Miskeen (needy person) (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you Fast is better for you if only you know. The month of Ramadhaan in which was revealed the Qur’aan, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the Criterion (between right and wrong). So, whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadhaan, i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Saum (Fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (Fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allaah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allaah [i.e. to say Takbeer (Allaahu Akbar: Allaah is the Most Great)] for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him.} [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 183-185]

Virtues of Fasting

My brothers! Know that Fasting is from one of the best forms of `Ibaadaat (acts of worship) and from the highest types of obedience. There are many Texts (from the Qur’aan and the Sunnah) about its virtues.

Virtues of the Month of Ramadhaan

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

Brief translation of Shaikh Ibn al-`Uthaymeen's “ مجالس شهر الرمضان ”

All praises be to Allaah, the one who brought into existence and invented; and who created water and the soil. Nothing is hidden from His sight even as small as the ant hidden in the night. Nothing equal to the weight of an atom, in the earth below or the heavens above, is distant from His knowledge.

﴿لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَـوَتِ وَمَا فِي الارْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمَا تَحْتَ الثَّرَى * وَإِن تَجْهَرْ بِالْقَوْلِ فَإِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ السِّرَّ وَأَخْفَى * اللَّهُ لا إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ لَهُ الاْسْمَآءُ الْحُسْنَى﴾ [طه: 6-8]

{To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth, and all that is between them, and all that is under the soil. And if you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) speak (the invocation) aloud, then verily, He knows the secret and that which is yet more hidden. Allaah! Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)! To Him belong the Best Names.} [Surah Taha (20): 6-8]

Hadeeth: Open repentance for open mistakes.

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

`Ataa reported from Mu`aadh bin Jabl that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “(O people!) Keep your duty to Allaah and fear him as much as you can. And remember Allaah عز وجل near every stone and tree (i.e. remember Allaah a lot). And if you committed a sin, follow it up with repentance – a secret (mistake to be repented) secretly; and an open (mistake to be repented) publicly.”

[Reported by Imaam Ahmad in “al-Zuhd” (26) and Tabaraanee in “al-Mu`jam al-Kabeer” (20/159/331). Shaikh al-Albaanee said in al-Saheehah (3320): “the narrators of this narration are reliable, they are the narrators of al-Bukhaaree and Muslim; except for Shareek (one of the narrators) who is weak, and the chain is Mursal (broken) as `Ataa did not meet Mu`aadh.” This Hadeeth also has supporting chain which takes it to the level of “Hasan li ghairihee”, see al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (1475) ]

(عليك بتقوى الله ما استطعت، واذكر الله عز وجل عند كل حجر وشجر. !اذا عملت سيئةً فأحدثْ عندها توبةً؛ السرُّ بالسرِّ، والعلانيةُ بالعلانيةِ).

Brief Comments of Shaikh Ibn Baaz on Saheeh al-Bukhaaree #5

Prayer is from Imaan.

Imaam al-Bukhaaree رحمه الله said:

Chapter: The Prayer is from Imaan. And the saying of Allaah تعالى {And Allaah would never make your faith to be lost} i.e. your prayers offered towards Jerusalem. [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 143]

Hadeeth: Where should the second person stand when there are only two persons praying together?

Shaikh al-Albaanee said in “Al-Silsilah al-Ahaadeeth al-Saheehah” 6/174:

2590 - “What is the matter (in another narration: what is with you) that I made you stand in line with me and you moved back?”

Hayaa'

Imaam Bukhari رحمه الله said:

Chapter: Al-Hayaa' is part of Faith

Narrated `Abdullaah (bin Umar): Once Allaah's Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم passed by an Ansaari (man) who was admonishing to his brother regarding Hayaa'. On that Allaah's Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Leave him as Hayaa' is a part of faith." [Sahih al-Bukhaaree (23)]

The Prophet's concern for the Ummah

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

Allaah تعالى says:

قَدْ نَعْلَمُ إِنَّهُ لَيَحْزُنُكَ الَّذِى يَقُولُونَ فَإِنَّهُمْ لاَ يُكَذِّبُونَكَ وَلَـكِنَّ الظَّـلِمِينَ بِـَايَـتِ اللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ

{We know indeed the grief which their words cause you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم); it is not you that they deny, but it is the verses of Allaah that the wrongdoers deny.} [Surah al-An`aam (6): 33]

The Beast

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

Allaah تعالى said:

وَإِذَا وَقَعَ الْقَوْلُ عَلَيْهِم أَخْرَجْنَا لَهُمْ دَآبَّةً مِّنَ الاٌّرْضِ تُكَلِّمُهُمْ أَنَّ النَّاسَ كَانُوا بِـَايَـتِنَا لاَ يُوقِنُونَ

{And when the Word is fulfilled against them, We shall bring out from the earth a beast for them, to speak to them because mankind believed not with certainty in Our Ayaat.} [Surah Al-Naml (27): 82]
