The Companions set forth the example of the highest level of submission and obedience to the commandments of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

`Abdullaah Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما reported that Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم saw a person wearing a gold ring in his hand. He صلى الله عليه وسلم pulled it off and threw it away, saying:

❝One of you is wishing live coal from Hell and putting it on his hand.❞

It was said to the person after Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم had left: “Take your ring (of gold) and derive benefit out of it.” Whereupon he said: “No! By Allaah! I would never take it when Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم has thrown it away.”

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله said:

“The most (saved and) preferred opinion is to stop discussing ^[1] about the Fitnah which took place between Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم (Allaah be pleased with all of them) ^[2]; and do not to listen to the audios (or videos) which speak about the Fitnah that took place between the Sahaabah; for in them there are doubtful (matters) ^[3] which will only create confusion among the listeners.”

Allaah تعالى mentions about some of the favors He did for the Children of Israaeel but how they still rebelled against Him تعالى:

{And We shaded you (O Children of Israaeel) with clouds and sent down on you al-Manna and al-Salwaa, (saying): “Eat of the good lawful things We have provided for you,” (but they rebelled). And they did not wrong Us but they wronged themselves.} [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 57]

This is a small treatise to explain the `Adaalah (Justice/fairness/uprightness) of the Companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:

Removing The Doubts: Did Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه do injustice to the family of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم?

Hadeeth #1:

Narrated `Aaishah (mother of the believers) رضي الله عنها: “After the death of Allaah’s Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم, Faatimah عليها السلام, the daughter of Allaah’s Apostle, asked Abu Bakr Al-Siddeeq رضي الله عنه to give her her share of inheritance from what Allaah’s Apostle had left of the Fai (i.e. booty gained without fighting) which Allaah had given him. Abu Bakr said to her: “Allaah’s Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم said: ‘Our property will not be inherited, whatever we (i.e. prophets) leave is sadaqah (to be used for charity)’”. Faatimah عليها السلام, the daughter of Allaah’s Apostle got angry and stopped speaking to Abu Bakr, and continued assuming that attitude till she died. Faatimah عليها السلام remained alive for six months after the death of Allaah’s Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم. She used to ask Abu Bakr for her share from the property of Allaah’s Apostle which he left at Khaibar, and Fadak, and his property at Madeenah (devoted for charity). Abu Bakr refused to give her that property and said: “I will not leave anything Allaah’s Apostle used to do, because I am afraid that if I left something from the Prophet’s tradition, then I would go astray.” (Later on) `Umar gave the Prophet's property (of sadaqa) at Madeenah to `Alee and `Abbaas, but he withheld the properties of Khaibar and Fadak in his custody and said: “These two properties are the sadaqah which Allaah’s Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم used to use for his expenditures and urgent needs. Now their management is to be entrusted to the ruler.” (Al-Zuhree (d. 52H) said: “They have been managed in this way till today.”) [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (3091) and Saheeh Muslim (3311)]

In defense of the Companions

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

All the Companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم were `Adool (just) and Sudooq (truthful). We do not revile anyone of them, nor do we mention them except in goodness.

Whatever took place between `Alee, Mu`aawiyah and some of the other Companions, رضي الله عنهم اجمعين, then we remain silent about this. They will get twice the reward for their correct judgments and decisions, and they will still be rewarded for their incorrect decisions. As the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “If a judge gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is correct (i.e. agrees with Allaah and His Apostle's verdict) he will receive a double reward, and if he gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is wrong, (i.e. against that of Allaah and His Apostle) even then he will get a reward.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree]
