INTRODUCTION:

When trials get tough, people fall into depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses. Depression, anxiety, worry, grief, etc. all have a tremendous impact on a person’s life, social behavior, performance, quality of life, and health, etc.  In other religions, they have no remedy to cope with the situation in the face of difficulties. Other religions simply do not offer any solution. So, when people feel empty and directionless, some opt for consuming alcohol or other intoxicants to cope with this, and some live a life of drugs and illegal sex to look for a way out, and some just end up committing suicide when they feel the pain and suffering is unbearable. All this does nothing but harms a person in this world and the Hereafter. Depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses are some of the tools of Shaitaan, as Allaah تعالى said:

إِنَّمَا النَّجْوَىٰ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ لِيَحْزُنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَلَيْسَ بِضَارِّهِمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ

{Secret counsels (conspiracies) are only from Shaitaan, so that he may cause grief to the Believers. But he cannot harm them in the least, except as Allaah permits, and in Allaah let the Believers put their trust.} [1]

Since Shaitaan is our enemy, so the cure has to be Divine. In Islaam, when faced with difficulties, we are taught to seek Allaah’s help through patience and prayers:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ

{O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allaah is with those who are patient.} [2]

{Those who have believed and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allaah. Verily, in the remembrance of Allaah do hearts find rest.} [3]

The obligatory and optional Salaah, Dhikr (remembrance of Allaah), Du`aa, Tawakkal (reliance on Allaah), Trusting Him are the way out for the believers when faced with difficulties, calamities, and adversities.

Prophet Muhammad taught many Divine supplications to cope with the situation when the affairs get difficult. He was given the gift of Jawaami` al-Kalim (expressing much in a few words), as the Prophet said: I have been given Jawaami` al-Kalim (i.e., words which are concise but comprehensive in meaning). [4] The book deals with explaining some of these supplications to help one understand their meaning and what they imply, which, by Allaah’s permission, will give them strength in the face of difficulties.

May Allaah ease our burden, forgive our sins, give us patience during the times of trials and guide us out of the misery we suffer.

Brief Comments on Riyaadh al-Saaliheen #118

How to really thank Allaah for His favors?!

(What is real gratitude?)

Allaah تعالى said about Nooh عليه السلام:

ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا

{O descendants of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah. Indeed, he was a grateful servant.}

The Wisdom of Allaah ﷻ which we always fail to understand

Using examples from three incidents

A Muslim's Faith (Imaan) in Allaah can never be complete till he affirms for Allaah all that which He تعالى has affirmed for Himself in His Book and through His Messenger . We believe in all His Beautiful Names, Lofty Attributes, and Perfect Actions of Allaah…

a) without Takyyeef (without describing the HOW of it),

b) without Tamtheel (without equating them with the creation),

c) without Tashbeeh (without comparing them with the creation),

d) without Ta`teel (without denying or negating them),

e) and without Tahreef (without distorting or changing their meaning).

Actions that are foundations of sins

There are a few actions which are the foundation of one sin or the other:

1️⃣ Kibr (الكبر - pride, conceit, arrogance, narcissism). It was excessive pride that prevented Iblees from obeying the Command of Allaah to prostrate to Aadam.

2️⃣ Hirs (الحرص - wish, crave, desire). It was the desire to live long that made Aadam to disobey Allaah and eat from the tree.

3️⃣ Hasad (الحسد - jealousy, envy, animosity). One son of Aadam (Qaabil) killed the other son (Haabeel) out of jealousy that the sacrifice of the latter was accepted and not of the former.

4️⃣ Ghuloo (الغلو - exaggeration, excessiveness). Shirk first appeared on earth when the people exaggerated in praising the righteous people and took their graves as places of worship, while others made statues of these people and worshiped them.

5️⃣ Hubb al-Dunya (حب الدنيا - love, attachment to this worldly life). The love of the Dunyaa and the amassing of wealth is the head of all the wrongdoings, and it makes the person do all of the above in addition to niggardliness, oppression, malignity, cutting of ties with relatives, lust, etc.

And Allaah knows best.

Affirming al-Istawaa

Answering those who try to misinterprete the statement of Imaam Maalik

Imam Maalik رحمه الله when asked about how Allaah rose over the Throne (Istiwaa’), said: Istawaa’ is known, its manner is unknown, believing in it is obligatory, and asking about it is a Bid`ah (religious innovation).

The virtue of repeating the Adhaan behind the Muadhdhin

Allaah’s Messenger said: When you hear the Adhaan, repeat what the Muadhdhin (the call-maker) says.

[Saheehain]

`Abdullaah bin `Amr bin al-`Aas رضي الله عنهما reported: I heard the Messenger of Allaah saying: When you hear the Adhaan, repeat what the Muadhdhin says. Then send Salah upon me (i.e. invoke blessings on me) because everyone who does so will receive in return ten blessings from Allaah. Then beseech Allaah to grant me al-Waseelah, which is a high rank in Jannah, fitting for only one of Allaah’s slaves; and I hope that I will be that man. Whoever asks that I be given al-Waseelah, he will be assured of my intercession.

Reforming our homes

All praise is for Allaah alone, the One who is a Guide to the Right Path. He guides from His slaves – those who repent – to the Straight Path, and He brings them out of darkness into light. And He sends astray those who turn away (from His obedience) and follow their desires.

{And Allaah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves}

[Surah al-Nahl (16): 33]
