I Learned The Meaning From An Ice-Seller

Al-Raazee mentioned in his Tafseer: It has been reported that someone from the Salaf said: I learned the meaning of the Surah from an ice-seller. He was calling out in a loud voice (pleading with people), saying: “Have mercy on the one whose capital is melting away! Have mercy on the one whose capital is melting away!”

I said (to myself): “This is the meaning of the saying of Allaah تعالى:

إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ
{Verily! Man is in loss}

Time passes by for a person; his life goes on, he gains nothing, therefore, making him a loser.”
📚 [Tafseer al-Raazee (32/278). The Aayah is from Surah al-`Asr (103): 2]

They Think They’ll Get Away With It!

Many people believe that through eloquent speech and persuasion, they can talk their way out of any situation, which is why they feel no shame about taking things that do not belong to them.

Some also come to believe that falsehood and deception can shield them from every consequence. It is this illusion that emboldens them to seize what is not rightfully theirs, mistaking deception for immunity, injustice for gain, and greed for entitlement.

Chapter: What Has Been Narrated Concerning The Shortcomings In The Salaah (Prayer) [1]

The Messenger of Allaah said: Indeed, a servant may offer a Salaah, but nothing of it is recorded for him except a tenth part of it, or a ninth, or an eighth, or a seventh, or a sixth, or a fifth, or a quarter, or a third, or a half.

This is the revised edition of the book, "Brief Notes On Du`aa al-Istikhaarah".

Originally published in June 2013, it provided a brief overview, serving as a quick reference for the topic. However, over time, it became clear that elaborating on the explanation and adding more details was necessary, especially after I obtained Shaikh Ibn al-`Uthaymeen’s رحمه الله "Sharḥ Ṣaḥeeḥ al-Bukhaaree", and the Fataawa of Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله and Shaikh Ṣaaleḥ al-Fawzaan حفظه الله, which I previously did not have access to.

Upon reflection, this Du`aa reveals its profound meaning, with each word selected with meticulous care. Understanding the essence of this Du`aa acts as a crucial key to grasping the overall concept of Du`aa.

The Merits Of Dhikr (Remembering Allaah) (Part 14):

The Virtues Of Gatherings Where Allaah Is Remembered And The Study Circles Where The Religion Is Taught:

Many Aḥaadeeth mention the virtues of such gatherings where Allaah is remembered. The following are seven such narrations:

19 (First) - Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrated: Allaah’s Messenger said: Allaah has Angels who go about on the roads and paths seeking those who remember Allaah. When they find some people who remember Allaah (and praise Him), they call each other, saying: “Come to the object of your pursuit.” Then the Angels surround them with their wings (till the space between them and) the lowest heaven (is fully covered). (After these people disperse and the Angels go back), their Lord asks them (those Angels) - though He knows better than them - {What do My slaves say?} The Angels reply: “They are glorifying Your praise by saying: the Tasbeeḥ (Sub-ḥaan Allaah), the Takbeer (Allaahu Akbar), the Taḥmeed (Alḥamdulillaah), the Tamjeed, (i.e., they were declaring Your Perfectness, praising, remembering Your Greatness and Majesty).” Allaah then asks: {Did they see Me?} The Angels reply: “No! By Allaah, they have not seen You.” Allaah asks: {How would they act if they were to see Me?} The Angels reply: “If they were to see You, they would worship You more devoutly, and glorify You more deeply, and extol You (and declare Your freedom from any resemblance to anything) much more.” Allaah says (to the Angels): {What do they seek from Me?} The Angels reply: “They beg You for Paradise.” Allaah says (to the Angels): {Have they seen it?} The Angels say: “No! By Allaah, O Lord! They have not seen it.” Allaah says: {How would it have been if they saw it?} The Angels say: “Were they to see it, they would have been more intensely eager for it, would have asked more earnestly for it, and would have had a greater desire for it.” Allaah says: {From what do they seek protection?} The Angels reply: “They seek protection from the (Hell) Fire.” Allaah says: {Have they seen it?} The Angels say: “No By Allaah, O Lord! They did not see it.” Allaah says: {How would they act if they were to see it?} The Angels say: “If they were to see it, they would be more earnest in fleeing from it and would have extreme fear from it.” Then Allaah says: {I make you witnesses that I have forgiven them.} Allaah’s Messenger further said: One of the Angels would say: “There was so-and-so amongst them, and he was not one of them, but he had just come for some need (and he sat with them).” Allaah would say: {They are people who are seated together, and he who sits with them will not be miserable.} [1]

9- The Prophet said:

Those people who get up from a gathering in which they did not remember Allaah will be just as if they had got up from (a gathering) similar to that of the carcass of a donkey, and it will be a cause of grief to them. [1]

8- The Prophet said:

No group sits in a gathering in which they do not remember Allaah nor send Ṣalaah upon their Prophet, except it will be a source of remorse for them. If He تعالى wills, He will punish them, and if He wills, He will forgive them . [1]

If anyone sits at a place (or a gathering) where he does not remember Allaah, deprivation will descend on him from Allaah; and if he lies in a place where he does not remember Allaah, deprivation will descend on him from Allaah. [1]

Does not one of you go out in the morning to the Masjid and learn or recite two Aayaat (verses) from the Book of Allaah عز وجل? That is better for him than two she-camels, and three Aayaat (verses) are better (than three she-camels), and four verses are better for him than four (she-camels), and so on their number in camels. Whoever recites a letter from Allaah’s Book (the Qur’aan), he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a tenfold reward. I do not say that Alif-Laam-Meem (الـــم) is (one) letter, but Alif (أ) is a letter, Laam (ل) is a letter and Meem (م) is a letter. [1]

The complete narration is as follows:

`Abdullaah Ibn Busr رضي الله عنهما narrated that a Bedouin said to the Messenger of Allaah said: “The laws of Islaam have become burdensome for me. Tell me of something that I will be (easily) able to adhere to. He said: Always keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allaah عز وجل [1]

Allaah تعالى says: {I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e., I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than them; and if he draws nearer to Me by a hand span, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he draws nearer to me by one cubit, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.} [1]

Should I not inform you of the best of your deed, and the purest of them with your Master, and the highest of them in your ranks, and what is better for you than spending gold and silver, and better for you than meeting your enemy, and you striking their necks, and they strike your necks? They said: “Of course.” He said: The remembrance of Allaah تعالى. Importance Of Repaying Debts (A Compilation Of 20 Narrations)

Summary:

1.     Books of Hadeeth like Sunan Abu Dawood, Sunan al-Nasaa’ee, Sunan Ibn Maajah, and Sunan al-Daarimee dedicated a special chapter heading: “Stern Warning Concerning Debt”

2.
Anyone who died while he had a debt to repay, will be detained from entering Paradise.

3.
The Prophet refused to offer funeral prayer for the one who died without repaying debt or not leaving behind anything with which to repay the debt. The only other time the Prophet and his Ummah have been prohibited to pray is for the Kuffaar. This is another clear indication of the importance of Huqooq al-`Ibaad (rights of the creation), and the severity of not repaying debts.

4.
On the Day of Judgment, there will be no Deenar or Dirham to repay debt with. The matter will be decided through the exchanging of good deeds and bad deeds.

5.
The Person, who is in debt, should pay off his debts before he can give money in charity.

6.
The inheritance is not to be distributed to the heirs till the debt is paid off first. Just in two Ayaat, Allaah تعالى reminded four times about this in His Book.

When will a person be regarded as from the People of the Qur’aan, the People of Allaah, those who are closest to Him?!

🚫 This has nothing to do with the Qur’aaniyoon (the Hadeeth rejectors), may Allaah save us from their Fitnah.

It was narrated that Anas bin Maalik رضي الله عنه said: The Messenger of Allaah said: Allaah has His own people among mankind. They said: “O Messenger of Allaah, who are they?” He said: They are the people of the Qur’aan, Allaah’s own people and those who are closest to Him.

Explanation Of The Hadeeth: No One Can Give What Allaah Withholds

📑 Narration:

Warraad, who was the scribe and a freed slave of al-Mugheerah Ibn Shu`bah رضي الله عنه, narrated that Khaleefah Mu`aawiyah Ibn Abee Sufyaan رضي الله عنهما wrote to al-Mugheerah رضي الله عنه – and he was the Ameer assigned by Mu`aawiyah رضي الله عنه over al-Koofah – asking him to write for him a Hadeeth which he had heard from the Prophet . So, al-Mugheerah رضي الله عنه wrote to Mu`aawiyah رضي الله عنه: “Allaah’s Messenger used to say at the end of every obligatory prayer after the Tasleem:

Laa ilaaha illa-l-laahu wahdahoo laa sharika lahoo; lahu-l-mulk wa lahu-l-hamd, wahuwa `alaa kulli shai’n Qadeer. Allaahumma laa maani`a Limaa a`taita, wa laa mu`tia Limaa mana`ta, wa laa yanfa`u dhal-jaddi minkal-jadd.

Explanation of the Hadeeth: May you be honeyed by Allaah!

HADEETH #1:

The Messenger of Allaah said: When Allaah wills good for His slave, he is honeyed by Him. They asked: “What does honeying mean?” He said: Allaah opens for him (the door towards) righteous deeds before his death, then He (تعالى) takes (his soul) whilst he is in that state.

📚 [Musnad Ahmad (17784) and graded as “Saheeh as per the condition of Imaam Muslim” by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (1114). Also graded as “Saheeh” by al-Haakim in al-Mustadrak]

Another translation of the above Hadeeth:

When Allaah wills good for His slave, He (تعالى) sweetens him. They asked: “What is this sweetening?” He said: Allaah opens for him (the door towards) righteous deeds before his death, then He (تعالى) takes (his soul) whilst he is in that state.

Explanation of the Hadeeth: Being prevented from the worldly possessions

Qataadah Ibn al-Nu`maan رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allaah said:

When Allaah loves a slave, He prevents him from the world, just as one of you prevents his sick (relative) from water.

🌴🌴🌴

📑 Explanation:

It is from the Wisdom of Allaah سبحانه وتعالى that He afflicts His sincere believing righteous slave by preventing him from receiving some of the things of the world - the things which people think are beneficial and essential for having a comfortable life. But these afflictions serve a purpose:

Explanation of the Hadeeth: The Du`aa is answered in one of the three ways

🌟 Perhaps, on the Day of Judgment, a slave would wish that none of his supplications would have been answered in this world after seeing the reward he would be receiving on that Day for his unanswered supplications.

👉 Abu Sa`eed al-Khudree رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet said: There is no Muslim who offers a supplication - as long as he does not supplicate for something sinful or for severing of the ties of kinship - except that Allaah will give him one of three things in return for it: either He will hasten for him what he asked for, or He will store it [the reward for it] up for him in the Hereafter, or He will avert from him an equivalent evil. They (the Companions) said: “Then we will supplicate a lot”. He said: Allaah is more generous.
