Shaikh Muqbil: Do not say: "Natural Disaster" or "Mother Nature"

Shaikh Muqbil رحمه الله said:

"So as for the one who tries to ascribe these matters to the nature, and he calls them ‘natural disasters’…if he intends by this that the nature itself is that which is causing these matters, then he is a Kaafir, a disbeliever. In a hadeeth Qudsi, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “He (Allaah تعالى) said: “This morning one of my slaves became a believer in Me and one a disbeliever. As for him who said: ‘We have been given rain by virtue of Allaah and His mercy,’ that one is a believer in Me, a disbeliever in the stars; and as for him who said: ‘We have been given rain by such-and-such a star,’ that one is a disbeliever in Me, a believer in the stars.’“

So Allaah has clarified here that the one who ascribes these matters – whether it be rain, lightening, thunder, the Tsunami, whatever it may be – if he attributes that to the creation, then he has disbelieved in Allaah.

If a person says, for example, in describing an earthquake that the earth begins to do this and they begin to explain the actual way that the thing takes place, then this is a scientific explanation, but we understand that it is Allaah Who caused all of that to take place. That it is all from the Might of Allaah. So he does no ascribe that matter to the nature itself."

Shaikh al-Fawzaan: Natural Phenomenon or the Will of Allaah?!

In response to the question regarding the reasons for the earthquakes and if nature has any role in it, Shaikh Saaleh al-Fawzaan غفر الله له said:

There is no such thing as natural phenomenon [1], for these are from the statements of the atheists. Everything which happens is by Allaah’s Qadhaa and Qadar (Divine Will and Decree) and everything which takes place is by the Wisdom of Allaah جل وعلا. As for the earthquakes, Allaah تعالى decrees them so that He عز وجل can frighten His slaves [2] and to remind them to turn to their Lord in repentance. Indeed it is Allaah تعالى who {grasps the heavens and the earth lest they move away from their places} [3]. Allaah تعالى has grasped the heavens and the earth, and when He تعالى Wills, He shakes them to awakened His slaves and to warn them.

Brief Comments on Riyaadh al-Saaliheen #82

Tafseer: When you meet a foolish person, say Salaam...

Allaah تعالى said:

{And the slaves of the Most Beneficent (Allaah) are those who walk on the earth in humility and sedateness, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness.} [Surah al-Furqaan (25): 63)]

Shaikh Ibn al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

{And the slaves of the Most Beneficent (Allaah)}, those whom Allaah تعالى has favored with His Mercy and guided them towards goodness. When they walk on the earth, they walk with humility, meaning: when you see anyone of them, you will see dignity in his walk and not the hastiness which is reprehensible. [1]

Weakness of the Hadeeth: Sleeping after `Asr

Shaikh al-Albaanee رحمه الله mentioned in al-Dha`eefah (39):

On the authority of `Aaishah رضي الله عنها, that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Whoever sleeps after `Asr and loses his mind, then let him blame no one but himself.

Shaikh al-Albaanee graded this Hadeeth as Da`eef (Weak).

Ibn Hibbaan mentioned this narration in his book: “al-Dhu`afaa’ wal-Majrooheen” (1/283) (the book of weak narrations).

Ibn al-Jawzee mentioned it in his book: “al-Maudhoo`aat” (3/69) (the book of weak and fabricated narrations) and said: it is not authentic.

Shaikh al-Albaanee رحمه الله said:

Marwaan [ibn Muhammad al-Asadi] said: “I said to Layth ibn Sa`d – when I saw him sleep after `Asr during the month of Ramadhaan: “O Abu al-Haarith! Why are you sleeping after `Asr when Ibn Lahee`ah has told us … (and he mentioned this narration)?” Al-Layth said: I do not give up something that is good for me because of the Hadeeth of Ibn Lahee`ah from `Aqeel!

I (al-Albaanee) say: I am very much impressed by this answer of al-Layth, because it is indicative of his understanding and his knowledge (about the Deen), and no wonder, for he was one of the Imaams of the Muslims and amongst the well-known Fuqahaa’. I know that many of the Shaikhs today do not sleep after `Asr, even if they are in a need to do that. If it is said to them that the Hadeeth concerning that is Da`eef, they will immediately respond by saying: “Weak Ahaadeeth should be followed with regard to virtuous actions”.

Look at the difference between the understanding of the Salaf (earlier generations) and the knowledge of the Khalaf (later generations).

Attending the congregation in the Masjid:

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما said:
It is disliked that one gets up for prayer in a lazy state. Rather, he should get up for it with a cheerful face, highly spirited, and extremely delighted, because he is going to converse with Allaah تعالى. And Allaah تعالى will be in front of him, forgiving him, and answering his prayers when he supplicates to Him. Thereafter, Ibn `Abbaas recited this verse:

﴿وَإِذَا قَامُواْ إِلَى الصَّلَوةِ قَامُواْ كُسَالَى﴾

{And when they stand up for Salaah, they stand with laziness} [Surah al-Nisaa (4): 142]

[Tafseer Ibn Katheer (2/438)]

Imaam al-Shaafi`ee: The Qur’aan is the Speech of Allaah and NOT created:

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

Allaah تعالى says:

﴿بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ وَإِذَا قَضَىٰ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ﴾

{The Originator of the heavens and the earth; when He decrees a matter, He only says to it: كُن (kun: "Be!") - and it is.} [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 117]

[See also: (3):47; (3):59; (6):73; (16):40; (19):35; (36):82; (40):68]

Imaam al-Shaafi`ee رحمه الله said:
“Verily! Allaah تعالى created the creation by just saying: كُن (Be!). So, IF كُن is in itself created, then it is like (saying): ‘The creation created the creation.’”

Rulings pertaining to Salaah al-Janaazah [Salaatul-Janaazah] (Funeral Prayer):

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

The following are some of the selected rulings from the Fataawa of Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله pertaining to Salaah al-Janaazah:

1) The Salaah al-Janaazh is prescribed for everyone – men and women.

2) The women should not follow the Funeral procession to the cemetery because they are forbidden to do so.

[Note: It was narrated that Abu Hurairah and Hassaan bin Thaabit رضي الله عنهما said: The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم cursed women who visit the cemetery. [Sunan al-Tirmidhee (1056) and Sunan Ibn Maajah (1574, 1575, 1576) and graded as “Hasan” (good) by Shaikh al-Albaanee]]

Emotionally inciting the Ummah without providing the solutions

I received the above pic in one of my whatsapp group and would like to address a few points about it.

There are two aspects in regards to this cartoon:

A) Creating awareness:

The pic is trying to create awareness about the situation of the Ummah and the importance of helping each other in the times of need. There are many Ahaadeeth which encourage the people to help their brothers in need. The following are a few examples:

The trials in this world

Jaabir Ibn `Abdullaah رضي الله عنهما narrated that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
On the Day of Judgement, when the people who were tried (in this world) are given their rewards, the people who were well-off (in life), will wish that their skins had been cut off with scissors while they were in the world.
[Sunan al-Tirmidhee (2402) and graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

If Allah wants to do good to somebody, He afflicts him with trials.
[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (5645)]

Anas رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
When Allaah wants good for his slave, He hastens his punishment in the world. And when He wants bad for His slave, He withholds his sins from him until he appears before Him on the Day of Judgement.

And with this (same) chain, (it was reported) from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم who said:
Indeed greater reward comes with greater trial. And indeed, when Allah loves a people He subjects them to trials, so whoever is content, then for him is pleasure, and whoever is discontent, then for him is wrath.
[Sunan al-Tirmidhee (2396) and the wordings are his, Sunan Ibn Maajah (4031) and graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله mentioned that some of the Salaf said:
Were it not for the trials in this world, we would be arriving bankrupt on the Day of Judgment.

Worshiping Allaah upon Ma`rifah

Question: Which is the first Command in the Qur'aan, according to the order of recitation (and not according to the order of Revelation)?

Answer: The very first Command in the Qur’aan (according to the order of recitation) is to worship Allaah upon Ma`rifah (sure knowledge, understanding and certainty); and this is what is mentioned in Surah al-Baqarah (2): 21.

This is the priority in the Qur’aan: To know Allaah and to worship Him alone.

As much as it is important to worship Allaah, it is also important to know who we are worshiping.

Our whole Da`wah revolves around:
a) Who to worship? (i.e. Tawheed)
b) How to worship? (i.e. Sunnah)

{O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous * Who has made the earth a resting place for you, and the sky as a canopy, and sent down water (rain) from the sky and brought forth therewith fruits as a provision for you. Then do not set up rivals unto Allaah (in worship) while you know (that He Alone has the right to be worshipped)} [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 21-22]

A) We are commanded to worship Allaah تعالى because:
1) He has created us and those before us.
2) He spread out the earth for our comfort.
3) He made the sky as a ceiling (making the atmosphere livable for us and as a protection from cosmic radiations).
4) He sends down the rain from the sky for our benefit.
5) He provides us with vegetation for our sustenance.

B) So when we have ACKNOWLEDGED all this; all our obedience, worship and loyalty be to Allaah alone, and that we should not set up rivals unto Allaah in worship.

The more we learn about Allaah, by learning Tawheed, the more eager we will be to worship Him sincerely.

Importance of Criticism to control people from playing with the Deen

Imaam al-Shawkaanee رحمه الله said:

“If it were not for this Jarh and Ta`deel (criticism and praising of people), the liars would have played with the Sunnah (i.e. they would  have fabricated whatever they wanted in the name of religion without anyone to stop them), and they would have mixed good with evil, and the people would not have been able to distinguish between Truth and Falsehood.”
