Tafseer: {Who is more unjust...}

O brothers and sisters! What excuse will you give to your Lord for your ignorance on that day – knowing that Allaah had sent down His Book for your guidance; and sent His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم to show you the way to implement it; and raised scholars so that you learn from them?

By Allaah! You have oppressed yourselves – rather you are the biggest oppressors to yourselves - when you don’t even learn the basics of your religion – when you can’t describe what Tawheed is; and when you can’t identify Shirk; and when you don’t know the Fiqh of Wudhu or the Salaah and their conditions, pillars, obligations and Sunan.

When will you learn all this if not now?!
When will this injustice end?!
How long would you want to remain ignorant?!

{And who does more wrong than he who is reminded of the Aayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of his Lord, then turns aside therefrom? Verily, We shall exact retribution from the Mujrimoon (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners).} [Surah al-Sajdah (32):22]

{And who does more wrong than he who is reminded of the Aayaat of his Lord, then turns aside therefrom}, means: there is no one who does more wrong than the one whom Allaah reminds of His signs and explains them to him clearly, then after that he neglects and ignores them, and turns away from them, forgetting them as if he does not know them.

Qataadah رحمه الله said: “Beware of turning away from the remembrance of Allaah, for whoever turns away from remembering Him will be the most misguided and the most in need, and the most guilty of sin.”

Allaah تعاى says, warning the one who does that:

{Verily, We shall exact retribution from the criminals.}, meaning: `We shall avenge Ourselves on those who do that in the strongest possible terms.'

{And who does more wrong than he who is reminded of the Aayaat of his Lord, then turns aside therefrom}

It means: no one can be more unjust and more deviated than the one who was reminded of the Aayaat of his Lord – which reached him from his Lord, Who send it for his on welfare, and to fulfill His blessings upon him through His Messengers, commanding him and reminding him of that which will benefit him in his religious and his worldly affairs, and preventing him from that which will harm his religious and worldly affairs; and which requires that the person meets it with faith, submission, implementation and thankfulness.

But this unjust person meets it with the opposite of what was required from him. So he does not believe in it nor does he follow it, but rather turns away from it, and throw it away behind his back (i.e. ignores it completely). So he is from the bigger criminals – those who deserve severe resentment. And that is why Allaah تعالى said:

{Verily, We shall exact retribution from the criminals.}
