Shaikh Ibn Baaz: "The Da`wah had reached the Prophet's Father"

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله said:

* The saying of Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم: “Verily my father and your father are in the Fire”, [1] is an indication that the Da`wah (the message of Islaam) had reached [2] him as it had reached `Amr bin Luhai. [3]

[1] Anas رضي الله عنه reported: A person said: Messenger of Allaah, where is my father? He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “(He) is in the Fire.” When he turned away, he (the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) called him and said: “Verily my father and your father are in the Fire.” [Saheeh Muslim (203)]

[2] Allaah تعالى out of His Divine Justice, does not punishes anyone except after the Hujjah (proof) has been established against him - by sending the Messengers and revealing the Books. Allaah تعالى says:

﴿وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّىٰ نَبْعَثَ رَسُولًا﴾

{We never punish until We have sent a Messenger (to give warning).} [Surah al-Israa’ (17):15]

[3] `Amr bin Luhai bin Qama`ah was the father of Khuzaa`ah (one of the tribes in Makkah). He was the first one who changed the religion of Ismaa`eel عليه السلام, and was the first one who introduced idol worship in Makkah, and started the tradition of freeing the animals for these idols (al-baheerah, al-saa’ibah, al-waseelah and al-haam).

Shaikh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said: `Abdul Rahmaan bin Zaid said: “They the (`Arabs) used to say Laa ilaha illallaah only while they had no Book, nor any Prophet amongst them.”

Shaikh al-Islaam added: “This is how the `Arabs were upon before `Amr bin Luhai introduced Shirk and worshiping of idols among them. They (the `Arabs) were upon monotheism, worshiping none but Allaah and used to revere Ibraaheem and Ismaa`eel عليهم السلام and they had no Book to read from or to follow the Sharee`ah. Musaa’ عليه السلام was sent to Banee Israa’eel with the Sharee`ah of al-Tauraah (Torah), and to do pilgrimage to the Ancient House (the Ka`bah). But as for the `Arabs, no one was sent.” [al-Radd `ala al-Mantaqiyyeen (1/455)]

Ibn Katheer رحمه الله said in his Tafseer: “The `Amr mentioned in the above Hadeeth is the son of Luhai bin Qama`ah, one of the chiefs of the tribe of Khuzaa`ah who were the caretakers of the House of Allaah after the tribe of Jurhum, (and before the Prophet's tribe, Quraish). He was the first to change the religion of Ibraaheem (Al-Khaleel in Makkah) bringing idol worshipping to the area of Hijaaz (Western Arabia). He also called the foolish people to worship idols and offer sacrifices to them and started these ignorant rituals concerning the animals as well as other rituals of Jahiliyyah.” [Tafseer of Surah al-Maa’idah (5):103]

Narrated Sa`eed bin al-Musaiyab: al-Baheerah is a she-camel whose milk is kept for the idols and nobody is allowed to milk it; al-Saa’ibah was the she-camel which they used to set free for their gods and nothing was allowed to be carried on it. Sa`eed bin al-Musaiyab said that Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه said: Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “I saw `Amr bin `Aamir Al-Khuzaa`ah dragging his intestines in the Fire, and he was the first person to establish the tradition of setting free the animals (for the sake of their deities).” Al-Waseelah is the she-camel which gives birth to a she-camel as its first delivery, and then gives birth to another she-camel as its second delivery. People (in the Pre-Islamic periods of ignorance) used to let that she-camel loose for their idols if it gave birth to two she-camels successively without giving birth to a male camel in between. Al-Haam was the male camel which was used for copulation. When it had finished the number of copulations assigned for it, they would let it loose for their idols and excuse it from burdens so that nothing would be carried on it, and they called it the al-Haami. Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه said: “I heard the Prophet saying so.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (3521) and Saheeh Muslim (6839)]

Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم as saying: “I saw `Amr bin Luhai bin Qama`ah bin Khindif, brother of Banee Ka`b, dragging his Intestines in Fire.” [Saheeh Muslim (6838)]

Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “`Amr bin Luhai bin Qama'ah bin Khindif was the father of Khuza`ah.” [Shaeeh al-Bukhaaree (3520)]

Narrated `Aaishah رضي الله عنها: Once the sun eclipsed and Allah's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم stood up for the prayer and recited a very long Surah and when bowed for a long while and then raised his head and started reciting another Surah. Then he bowed, and after finishing, he prostrated and did the same in the second rak`ah and then said: “These (lunar and solar eclipses) are two of the signs of Allaah and if you see them, pray till the eclipse is over. No doubt, while standing at this place I saw everything promised to me by Allaah and I saw (Paradise) and I wanted to pluck a bunch (of grapes) there from, at the time when you saw me stepping forward. No doubt, I saw Hell with its different parts destroying each other when you saw me retreating and in it I saw `Amr bin Luhai who started the tradition of freeing animals (set them free) in the name of idols.” [Shaeeh al-Bukhaaree (1212)]

`Abdullaah Ibn Mas`ood رضي الله عنه said that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “The first one to establish the custom of Saa’ibah (releasing animals for the sake of false deities) and the worship of idols was Abu Khuzaa`ah `Amr bin `Aamir and verily I have seen him dragging his intestines in Hell” [Musnad Ahmad (4258) and graded as “Saheeh li ghairihee” by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (1677)]
