No life worth living except the life of the Hereafter:

Imaam al-Bukhaaree رحمه الله said:
The Book of al-Riqaaq (Softening of the hearts):
Chapter: Health and Leisure. There is no life worth living except the life of
the Hereafter.
Narrated Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “There are two blessings which many people lose: (They
are) health and free time for doing good.”
[1]
[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (6412)]
Narrated Anas رضي الله عنه: The
Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “O Allaah! There is no life worth living [2] except the
life of the Hereafter, so (please) make righteous the Ansaar (Helpers) and the Muhaajirah
(Emigrants).” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (3795, 6413)]
Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d al-Saaidee رضي الله عنه: We were in the company of Allaah’s Apostle in (the battle of)
Al-Khandaq, and he was digging the trench while we were carrying the earth
away. He looked at us and said: “O Allaah! There
is no life worth living except the life of the Hereafter, so (please) forgive
the Ansaar (Helpers) and the Muhaajirah (Emigrants).” [3] [Saheeh
al-Bukhaaree (3797, 6414) and Saheeh Muslim (4444)]
[Translator’s Note:
This Hadeeth is also reported from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم with slight different wordings:
On the authority of Anas رضي الله عنه: “O Allaah! There is no good
except the good of the Hereafter; so confer Your Blessings on the Ansaar and
the Emigrants.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (2835, 4100)]
On the authority of Anas رضي الله عنه again: “O Allaah! There is no
good except the good of the Hereafter; so bestow victory on the Ansaar and the
Emigrants.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (3932) and Saheeh Muslim (4447)]
On the authority of Anas رضي الله عنه again: “O Allaah! There is no
life except the life of the Hereafter. So honor the Ansaar and Emigrants (with
Your generosity).” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (2961, 3796) and Saheeh
Muslim (4446)]
On the authority of Suraaqah bin Ju`sham رضي الله عنه: “O Allaah! The actual reward is
the reward in the Hereafter, so bestow Your Mercy on the Ansaar and the
Emigrants.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (3906)]]
Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله said:
[1] This is the reality.
Many people are careless regarding these two blessings, which pass over a
person in vain; meaning: these two blessings go away from him without him utilizing
them efficiently.
[Translator’s Note: More
on the explanation of this Hadeeth can be accessed from here.]
[2] No life is worth living
like the life of the Hereafter, because the Hereafter will not come to an end.
[Translator’s Note: Allaah
تعالى said: {Nay,
you (O mankind) prefer the life of this world; Although the Hereafter is better
and more lasting.} [Surah al-A`laa (87): 16-17]
He تعالى also said: {And
whatever you have been given is an enjoyment of the life of (this) world and
its adornment, and that (Hereafter) which is with Allaah is better and will
remain forever. Have you then no sense?} [Surah Qasas (28): 60]
He تعالى also said: {Whatever
is with you, will be exhausted, and whatever with Allaah will remain.}
[Surah al-Nahl (16): 96]]
[3] “There is no life…” meaning: a life which is perfect
and everlasting. As for the life of this Dunyaa, then it is transient and
temporary.
Also, (in this Hadeeth) there is a mention of using the
means (of warfare), therefore they were digging the trench and it comes under
the saying of Allaah تعالى:
{And make ready against
them all you can of power, including steeds of war (weapons, artilleries etc.) to
threaten the enemy of Allaah and your enemy, and others besides whom, you may
not know but whom Allaah does know. } [Surah al-Anfaal (8): 60]
