Tafseer: {Verily, my protector is Allaah...}

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

Allaah تعالى says:

﴿إِنَّ وَلِيِّىَ اللَّهُ الَّذِى نَزَّلَ الْكِتَـبَ وَهُوَ يَتَوَلَّى الصَّـلِحِينَ﴾

{Verily, my protector is Allaah Who has revealed the Book (the Qur’aan), and He protects the righteous.} [Surah al-A`raf (7): 196]

Imaam Ibn Katheer رحمه الله said:

{Verily, my protector is Allaah Who has revealed the Book (the Qur’aan), and He protects the righteous}, meaning: “Allaah’s support is sufficient and He will suffice for me, He is my supporter, I trust in Him and take refuge with Him. He is my protector, in this life and the Hereafter, and the protector of every righteous believer after me.”

Shaikh al-Sa`dee رحمه الله said:

{Verily, my Walee is Allaah}, “the one who protects me, brings me benefits and pushes away from me the harm.”

{Who has revealed the Book (the Qur’aan)}, “in which is guidance, cure, and light. It (the Qur’aan) is from Him as a protection and for the proper upbringing of His Slaves, especially those who are religious.”

{and He protects the righteous}, “those who have rectified their intentions, actions, and statements. As Allaah تعالى says:

﴿اللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُخْرِجُهُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ﴾

{Allaah is the Walee (Protector or Guardian) of those who believe.} [Surah al=Baqarah (2): 257]

The Righteous Believers – when they turned towards their Lord with Imaan (Faith) and Taqwa (God-consciousness), and they do not turn towards anyone else, those cannot benefit them nor harm them – Allaah تعالى protects them, treats them with kindness, and helps them and guides them towards that which is good and beneficial for them in their religious and worldly lives. He تعالى, because of their Imaan (Faith) also removes from them all that which is bad, as He تعالى said:

﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُدَافِعُ عَنِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا﴾

{Truly, Allaah defends those who believe.} [Surah al-Hajj (22): 38]”

Tafseer al-Muyassar (by a group of prominent scholars in Tafseer):

“My Walee is Allaah, Who provides me with protection and help. It is He Who has revealed to me the Qur’aan with Haqq. It is He Who protects His Righteous slaves and helps them over their enemies and does not fail them.”
