When someone
does wrong to you, the first thing to do is to remind him of Allaah.

Allaah تعالى said
{She (Maryam)
said: “Verily, I seek refuge with al-Rahmaan (the Most Gracious) from you, if
you do fear Allaah.”} [Surah Maryam (19):
18]
Imaam Ibn Katheer رحمه الله said:
This means
that when the angel (Jibreel) appeared to her in the form of a man, while she
was in a place secluded by herself with a partition between her and her people,
she was afraid of him and thought that he wanted to rape her. Therefore, she
said:
{Verily, I seek refuge with al-Rahmaan from
you, if you do fear Allaah}
She meant: “If you fear Allaah”, as a means of reminding him of Allaah.
This is what is legislated in defense against (evil), so that it may be
repulsed with ease. Therefore, the first thing she did was try to make him fear
Allaah, the Mighty and Sublime.
Ibn Jareer
reported from `Aasim that Abu Waa’il said when mentioning the story of Maryam, “She
knew that the pious person would refrain (from committing evil) when she said:
﴿إِنِّى أَعُوذُ بِالرَّحْمَـنِ مِنكَ إِن كُنتَ
تَقِيّاً﴾
{“Verily,
I seek refuge with the Most Gracious from you, if you do fear Allaah.”}

In the long Hadeeth of the
three people who got trapped in the cave and each one mentioned their good
deeds as a Waseelah (intercession) to get out of the cave, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said about one of them:
❝The
(third) one said: O Allaah! You know that I had a cousin (i.e. my paternal
uncle’s daughter) who was most beloved to me and I sought to seduce her, but
she refused, unless I paid her one-hundred Dinars (i.e. gold pieces). So I
collected the amount and brought it to her, and she allowed me to sleep with
her. But when I sat between her legs, she said: “Be afraid of Allaah, and do
not deflower me but legally.” I got up and left the hundred Dinars (for her). O
Allaah! If You consider that I did that for fear of you than please remove the
rock. So Allaah saved them and they came out (of the cave).❞
[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (2333,
3465, 5974) and Saheeh Muslim (6607)]

Abu Dardaa’ reported: Allaah’s
(to pray) and we heard him say: ❝I seek refuge in Allaah from you. ❞ Then
said: ❝I curse
you with Allaah’s curse❞ three
times, then he stretched out his hand as though he was taking hold of
something. When he finished the prayer, we said: Messenger of Allaah, we heard
you say something during the prayer which we have not heard you say before, and
we saw you stretch out your hand. He صلى الله عليه وسلم replied: ❝Allaah’s enemy Iblees came with a flame
of fire to put it in my face, so I said three times: ‘I Seek refuge in Allaah
from you.’ Then I said three times: ‘I curse you with Allaah’s full curse.’ But
he did not retreat (on any one of these) three occasions. Thereafter I meant to
seize him. I swear by Allaah that had it not been for the supplication of my
brother Sulaimaan he would have been bound, and made an object of sport for the
children of Madeenah.❞

To give up something
even if it is your right:
Narrated Abu Usaid: We
went out with the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم to a garden called Ash-Shaut till we reached two walls between
which we sat down. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Sit here”, and went in (the garden). The Jauniyyah (a
lady from Banee Jaun) had been brought and lodged in a house in a date-palm
garden in the home of Umaimah bint An- Nu`maan bin Sharaaheel, and her wet
nurse was with her. When the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم entered upon her, he said to her: ❝Give me yourself (in marriage) as a
gift.❞ She said: Can a princess give herself in marriage to
an ordinary man? The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم raised his hand to pat her so that she might become tranquil.
She said: I seek refuge with Allaah from you. He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: ❝You have sought refuge with One Who
gives refuge.❞ Then the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم came out to us and said: ❝O Abu Usaid! Give her two white linen dresses to wear and
let her go back to her family.❞
[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (5254,
5255, 5637)]
Sahl Ibn Sa`d reported: An
Arab woman was mentioned before Allaah’s Messenger He صلى الله عليه وسلم commanded Abu Usaid to
send a message to her and he (accordingly) sent a message to her. She came and
stayed in the fortresses of Banu Saa’idah. Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم went out until he came to her while she
was (at that time) sitting with her head downcast. When Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم talked to her, she said: I seek refuge
with Allaah from you. Thereupon he صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “I (have decided to) keep you away from me.” They
(the people near her) said: Do you know who he is? She said: No. They said: He
is the Messenger of Allaah He came to you in order to give you the proposal of marriage.
She said: Then I am the most unfortunate woman because of this (i. e. my
defiance)…
[Saheeh Muslim (4981)]
