Using
examples from three incidents
A Muslim's Faith (Imaan) in Allaah can never be complete till he affirms for Allaah all that which He تعالى has affirmed for Himself in His Book and through His Messenger ﷺ. We believe in all His Beautiful Names, Lofty Attributes, and Perfect Actions of Allaah…
a) without
Takyyeef (without describing the HOW of it),
b) without
Tamtheel (without equating them with the creation),
c) without
Tashbeeh (without comparing them with the creation),
d) without
Ta`teel (without denying or negating them),
e) and without Tahreef (without distorting or changing their meaning).
And one of His Beautiful Names is al-Hakeem (the All-Wise), and one of His Lofty Attributes is al-Hikmah (Wisdom). Allaah ﷻ did not create anything except out of Divine Wisdom and for a purpose:
{Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?}
📚 [Surah al-Muminoon (23): 115]
And He ﷻ did not legislate a thing except with Wisdom and for a reason:
{and He has not laid upon you in religion (Islaam) any hardship}
📚 [Surah al-Hajj (22): 78]
Everything has been created for a perfect reason yet most of Mankind is ignorant:
{And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play. We created them not except with truth, but most of them know not.}
📚 [Surah al-Dukhaan (44):38-39]
Furthermore, it
is not necessary that our minds should be able to comprehend and understand
everything. Rather, Allaah تعالى
makes His slaves understand some of this Wisdom, and He تعالى does not disclose to them some of this Wisdom, as a trial for
them, and to test them who truly and sincerely worships Him alone.
Incident #1
One example of this is that when the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions رضي الله عنهم were still in Makkah, Allaah ﷻ instructed them to pray towards the direction of Jerusalem. So, the Prophet ﷺ would pray in the direction of Jerusalem while keeping the Ka`bah in the middle. But when the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions رضي الله عنهم migrated to al-Madeenah, they could not practice the same. The Prophet ﷺ still kept praying facing Jerusalem and this made the Jews incredibly happy. But then Allaah سبحانه وتعالى listened to the Prophet's ﷺ prayer and instructed him to pray facing the Ka`bah and this astonished the fools who did not understand Allaah's Wisdom.
{The fools among the people will say: "What has turned them (Muslims) from their Qiblah [prayer direction (towards Jerusalem)] to which they were used to face in prayer (earlier)?" Say, (O Muhammad ﷺ): "To Allaah belong both, east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a Straight Way." Thus We have made you [true Muslims], a Wasat (just) (and the best) nation, that you be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger (Muhammad ﷺ) be a witness over you. And We made the Qiblah (prayer direction towards Jerusalem) which you used to face (earlier), only to test those who followed the Messenger (Muhammad ﷺ) from those who would turn on their heels (i.e. disobey the Messenger)}
📚[Surah al-Baqarah (2): 142-143]
To Allaah belongs the East and the West, the North and the South, He ﷻ makes people face whichever direction He ﷻ wants.

Anyone who has read the Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ and the Tafseer of Surah al-Fath (48) will know about the treaty of al-Hudaybiyyah. This noble Surah was revealed after the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ returned from the area of al-Hudaybiyyah, during the month of Dhul-Qa`dah, in the sixth year of Hijrah. This is when the idolators prevented him from reaching al-Masjid al-Haraam to perform the `Umrah he ﷺ intended. They stopped the Prophet ﷺ from reaching Makkah at that time but they were prone to peace negotiations. A peace treaty was conducted stipulating that the Messenger ﷺ would return to al-Madeenah without entering Makkah or performing `Umrah this year, and then come back for `Umrah the following year. The Messenger ﷺ agreed. However, some of the Companions disliked these terms, including `Umar bin Al-Khattab After the Prophet ﷺ slaughtered his sacrificial animals in the area where he was stopped and headed back to al-Madeenah, Allaah ﷻ revealed this Surah about what occurred between the Prophet ﷺ and the idolators. Allaah declared the peace treaty of al-Hudaybiyyah as a manifest victory, because of the benefits the peace would carry and the good results that did originate from it.
`Abdullaah Ibn
Mas`ood and other Companions said: “You consider
the conquering of Makkah to be al-Fath (the victory), while to us, al-Fath is
the treaty conducted at al-Hudaybiyyah.”
📚[See Tafseer Ibn Katheer]
So, what the Muslims considered as a defeat, in the beginning, turned out to be a great victory.

Incident #3
And who doesn’t know the story of Yusuf عليه السلام. Indeed, in his story are lessons for everyone to learn, as Allaah تعالى says:
{Verily, in Yusuf and his brethren, there were Aayaat (lessons, signs) for those who ask.}
📚[Surah Yusuf (12): 7]
And also:
{Thus did We give full authority to Yusuf in the land, to take possession therein, as when or where he likes. We bestow of Our Mercy on whom We please, and We make not to be lost the reward of al-Muhsinoon (the good-doers)}
📚[Surah Yusuf (12): 56]
Allaah تعالى separated him from his father to perfect His favors upon, and no one knew or understood the wisdom behind it in the beginning. He was separated in the beginning only to be made as someone in authority, someone who was in charge of the storehouse and the one who was appointed to manage through disasters and emergencies. As Allaah تعالى says:
{Thus did We establish Yusuf in the land, that We might teach him the interpretation of events. And Allaah has full power and control over His Affairs, but most of the men know not.}
📚[Surah Yusuf (12): 21]
When in jail, Yusuf عليه السلام wanted to approach the king through one of the inmates who was released, but Allaah تعالى had a different plan. Instead of Yusuf عليه السلام approaching the king, Allaah ﷻ made the king to approach him and thus clearing him of the thing he was falsely accused of.
{And the king said: "Bring him to me that I may attach him to my person." Then, when he spoke to him, he said: "Verily, this day, you are with us high in rank and fully trusted."}
📚[Surah Yusuf (12): 54]
The brothers of Yusuf عليه السلام, who wanted to get rid of him the in the beginning became the ones who ended up needing his help.
{Thus did We plan for Yusuf}
📚[Surah Yusuf (12): 76]
{We raise to degrees whom We please, but over every possessor of knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allaah)}
📚[Surah Yusuf (12): 76]
{And he (Yusuf) raised his parents upon the throne, and they bowed to him in prostration. And he said: "O my father, this is the explanation of my vision of before. My Lord has made it a reality. And He (Allaah) was certainly good to me when He took me out of prison and brought you [here] from Bedouin life after Shaitaan had induced [estrangement] between me and my brothers. Certainly, my Lord is the Most Courteous and Kind unto whom He will. Truly He! Only He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.}
📚[Surah Yusuf (12): 76]
In the saying of Yusuf عليه السلام: {Verily my Lord is gracious to whomever He will} meaning: He تعالى causes His kindness to reach His slave from where he does not expect it, and He تعالى causes him to attain high status by means of things that he dislikes.
{for He is the All-Knowing} meaning: Who knows the visible and hidden aspects of all things and the secrets in people’s hearts.
{Most Wise} in doing what is appropriate and causing events to occur at decreed times.
