بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد
Even though we are a billion Muslims in the world today yet not everyone knows the purpose of their lives! Many of them live the lives of cattle, eat, drink, and sleep. If you ask them what their ambition in life is, many will reply on the lines of: “To get married, earn a lot of wealth, have the latest modeled car, own a big house, live a luxurious and lavish life, have a successful carrier.” This is the dream of many.
A day is coming when we will leave these all behind – with our
death! Everything that we loved in this world, we will leave it behind, and we
will get separated from it. Like it or not, you will leave them all behind.
But those who know, they know well that there is a supreme
goal that we must try to achieve in our lives, and that is: SEEKING THE PLEASURE
OF ALLAAH, and that we die in a state while Allaah is Well-Pleased with us. The
Companions رضي الله عنهم
understood this goal, and they did not say a word nor do a thing except to seek
the Pleasure of Allaah. They gave up on things which would displease Allaah, and
they gave up things for the sake of Allaah, so Allaah تعالى said about them:
{And the first to embrace
Islaam of the Muhaajiroon (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madeenah) and
the Ansaar (the citizens of Al-Madeenah who helped and gave aid to the Muhaajiroon)
and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allaah is well-pleased with
them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under
which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme
success.}
📚 [Surah al-Tawbah (9):
100]
So, whoever aims for this, then he is – by the Will of
Allaah - on the path of success, in this world and the Hereafter. Success will
follow him wherever he goes.
When a person stops his work or business and goes for al-Salaah,
then he has taken the path to success.
When he Fasts and leaves his food and drink, and suffers the
pangs of hunger and thirst, then he has taken the path to success.
When he gives Zakaah and Sadaqah and departs from some of his
wealth willingly, then he has taken the path to success.
If one were to ponder over the reasons for all the sorrows
and anxieties that many people feel, one will find that almost all the time it
is because of a loss in the worldly matter and not because of the loss in the Deen
(religious matter). The reason for their distress is not because they missed out
on an opportunity in the religious matter, rather, it is because they missed
out on the opportunity in the worldly matter.
He won’t be sad or upset today that he did not offer the
Fajr Salaah in the congregation, or that he missed out on the opportunity to
feed the poor, sponsor an orphan, or support a widow. He won’t be upset that he
is not offering the night prayers which he used to offer regularly in Ramadhaan.
You won’t find people upset about these matters these days except those upon
whom Allaah has mercy.
But we will find the majority of the people these days who
will be sad because they lost the opportunity to invest or make some profit, or
that their business incurred some losses.
A slight loss in business, or a cut in his pay, and a person
will behave as the world is coming to an end. But he will not be upset that he
is being called five times a day to come to success, yet he abandons the
Salaah.
But people are diverted by the competition in the worldly
life, “Oh, he is rich, and I am poor”, “he has a big house, while I’m living in
a rented apartment”, “he drives around in a luxurious car, while mine keeps
breaking down”!!! As Allaah تعالى
said:
أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ * حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ
{Competition in increasing
[worldly things] diverts you; until you visit the graveyards (upon your death)}
[till the end of the Surah]
📚 [Surah al-Takaathur
(102): 1-2]
All this craze to amass wealth will come to an end one day,
the day when you die and are carried to the graveyard and buried under the
dust.
Where does the grief come from? The source of grief is our
love for the Dunya!
As Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
❝Anxiety, distress, and sorrow occur due to two reasons:
First: the love of Dunya (worldly life) and the desire to chase it.
Second: negligence in carrying out the acts of righteousness (example: maintaining ties of kinship) and obedience (to Allaah)!
📚 [عدة الصابرين ص 256]
If we were to get half as upset at the loss of religious
matters as we do for worldly matters, we would find that the world and all its
glitter will chase us.
Anas Ibn Maalik رضي الله عنه narrated that the
Messenger of Allaah ﷺ
said: ❝Whoever makes the Hereafter
his goal, Allaah makes his heart rich and organizes his affairs, and the world
comes to him whether it wants to or not. And whoever makes the world his goal,
Allaah puts his poverty right before his eyes and disorganizes his affairs, and
the world does not come to him, except what has been decreed for him.❞
📚 [Sunan al-Tirmidhee (2465)
and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]
Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: that the Prophet ﷺ said: ❝Allaah
تعالى
says: {O son of Aadam, devote yourself to my worship. I will fill your heart
with contentment and alleviate your poverty. If you do not do this, I will fill
your heart with (worldly) pursuits and will not alleviate your poverty.}❞
📚[Musnad of Imaam Ahmad (8696), Sunan al-Tirmidhee (2466), Sunan Ibn Maajah (4107). and graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (1359). The wording is of Ibn Maajah]
