Book of Prayer: Chapter: Starting
from the right for entering the Masjid
And
Ibn `Umar (when entering) would begin with his right foot, and when exiting,
would begin with the left foot.
Narrated
`Aaishah: “The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم loved to start everything from the
right-hand side (for good things) whenever it was possible in all his affairs;
for example: during purification, combing and wearing the shoes.”[1] [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (426) and Saheeh Muslim
(401)]

From the sentence (of Ibn `Umar), it is referring to entering the Masjid, and
it is a great thing*, whereas while entering a
toilet, its opposite is done (i.e. entering with the left foot). Similarly
while wearing the shoes, socks, and dress (to begin with the right side). Also while
entering the house, the person should begin with his right foot, because the
house is better than (living) on the street.
*The Shaikh is referring to the following Hadeeth:
Abu
Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله
عليه وسلم said: “The parts of land dearest to Allaah are its Masaajid,
and the parts most hateful to Allaah are the markets.” [Saheeh
Muslim (1082)]
