It is reported on the authority of al-Hasan (al-Basree)
that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “A gate of paradise will open to one of those
who used to mock people and a cry will be heard: ‘Come here, come here,’ and he
will come forward in concern and anxiety, but when he reaches it, it will close
in front of him. And this will happen again and again, until the gate will open
and the cry ‘Come here, come here,’ will be heard as before, but he will not
approach because he knows it will only close in front of him.” [Ibn Abi al-Dunya
in al-Samt (285) and Dham al-Gheebah (149) and al-Baihaqee in Shu`ab al-Imaan (6333)]
Both, Ibn Abi al-Dunya and al-Baihaqee, reported this
narration from their respective chains on the authority of Rauh bin `Ubaadah
from Mubaarak bin Fudhaalah from al-Hasan from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.

The Weakness in the Hadeeth:
1) Shaikh al-Albaanee رحمه الله said in Dha`eef al-Targheeb (1762): “Its
chain is “Mursal [1] and Dha`eef”
(broken and weak).”
He رحمه الله also said: “Apart
from the Irsaal of al-Hasan al-Basree, there is a weakness due to al-Mubaarak
who is a Mudallis [2] and he
reported it using “`An” (عـن) (i.e. he did not
state clearly that he heard this narration directly from al-Hasan).”
2) Al-Mundhiree said in “al-Targheeb wal-Tarheeb”: “Mursal”.
3) Al-`Iraaqee said in “Takhreej al-Ihyaa”: “Ibn Abi
al-Dunyaa reported it on the authority of al-Hasan in a “Mursal” form.”
[1] Mursal (مرسل meaning “hurried”): If
the narrator between the Taabi`ee (Successor) and the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is
omitted from a given Isnaad, the Hadeeth is Mursal.
Al-Hasan al-Basree رحمه الله was a Taabi`ee who
was born only two years prior to `Umar’s رضي الله عنه death (assassination). So, all his
narrations directly from the Prophet صلى
الله عليه وسلم fall under the category of Irsaal/Mursal.
[2] Mudallis (the concealer
of his sources), Mudallas (concealed), and Tadlees (concealing): A person
reports from his Shaikh whom he met, what he did not hear from him, or from a
contemporary of his whom he did not meet, in such a way as to create the
impression that he heard the Hadeeth in person. A Mudallis (one who practices Tadlees)
here usually uses the mode “on the authority of” (عن) or “he said” (قال)
to conceal the truth about the Isnaad.

The first one for whom the Gates of Paradise will open
is Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:
The Believers will be allowed to enter the Jannah only
after the intercession of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:
As for the Paradise, then it is House of dignity and a
place for Allaah’s special ones and the Auliyaa’. So when they will reach it,
they will find that its gates are closed. They will wish that its Owner (Allaah
تعالى) opens its gates for
them. They will seek the intercession of the Ulul-`Azm from His Messengers and
all of them will recommend to approach the one after them till it is brought to
the Final Messenger, their leader and the best of them (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم). He صلى الله عليه وسلم will say: “I am for that.” Then he صلى الله عليه وسلم will go beneath
Allaah’s Throne and fall in prostration and will supplicate whatever Allaah
Wills him to supplicate. Then he صلى
الله عليه وسلم will be asked to raise his head and to ask whatever he wishes.
The Allaah تعالى will accept his
intercession and will open the door in his honor and to show the noble position
of His Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم)
and His favors upon him. [This is as per the narrations mentioned in Saheeh
al-Bukhaaree (1474, 1475), Saheeh Muslim (390), and Sunan al-Tirmidhee (3148)]
So how can the doors of Jannah close on the ones who have
been allowed to enter the Jannah after receiving the intercession of the Prophet
صلى الله عليه وسلم?!

The Qantarah:
Allaah تعالى says:
﴿وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِم
مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَانًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ﴾
{And We shall remove from
their (the Believers) breasts any sense of resentment (that they may have), (So
they will be like) brothers facing each other on thrones.} [Surah
al-Hihr (15): 47]
Al-Qantarah: (القنطرة):
When the believers pass safely over the bridge across Hell, they will be
stopped at al-Qantarah (a bridge/place) in between Hell and Paradise where they
will retaliate upon each other for the injustices done among them in the world,
and when their hearts are purified of all their sins, and they have no
hostility against each other, they will be admitted into Paradise. [Tafseer Ibn
Katheer]
Narrated Abu Sa`eed Al-Khudree رضي الله عنه: Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“The believers, after being saved from the
(Hell) Fire, will be stopped at al-Qantarah (a bridge) between Paradise and
Hell and mutual retaliation will be established among them regarding wrongs
they have committed in the world against one another. After they are cleansed
and purified (through the retaliation), they will be admitted into Paradise; and
by Him in Whose Hand Muhammad’s soul is, every one of them will know his
dwelling in Paradise better than he knew his dwelling in this world.”
[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (6535)]
So the Jannah mocking at the Believers after everything
has been settled between them will not be appropriate. And Allaah knows best.
