Allaah تعالى
says:
وَلَا تَنْفَعُ الشَّفَاعَةُ عِنْدَهُ إِلَّا لِمَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ}
{Say (O Muhammad to those
polytheists, pagans, etc.): “Invoke those whom you assert (to be associate
gods) besides Allaah, they possess not even the weight of an atom, either in
the heavens or on the earth, nor have they any share therein, nor there is for
Him any supporter from among them. And intercession does not benefit with Him
except for one whom He permits…}
[Surah al-Saba’ (34): 22-23]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله commented on the
above Aayah:
A Mushrik (polytheist) takes as his god a thing that he believes
will benefit him. But no one can provide benefit except for the one who
possesses one of these four characteristics:
1) That he be the possessor/owner of the thing which the
slaves requests from him.
2) If he does not own it, then he should be in
partnership with the one who owns it.
3) If he is not in partnership with him, then he should at
least be the one whom the owner has appointed as his helper and supporter.
4) If he is not even appointed as a helper or supported,
then the very least is that he should have influence so that his intercession
is accepted by the owner.
Allaah سبحانه وتعالى negated all these four categories, negating step by step,
from the top to the bottom. He تعالى negated (for such things) the ownership, the partnership, the support
and the intercession – which the Mushrik believes that they possess. He تعالى affirmed the
intercession, but the Mushrik will have no share in it; He تعالى will permit only
those whom He wills to intercede.
[Meaning: He تعالى
negated that there is any other owner besides Him; He تعالى negated the need of having any partner or supporter;
and He تعالى
negated the right for intercession for the Mushriks. No one will be allowed to
intercede whenever they want and for whomever they want. Only Allaah will
decide who will have the permission to intercede and for whom they can
intercede.]
Sufficient is this Aayah - as Noor (light), clear
evidence, salvation (for mankind), guidance towards Tawheed, and for uprooting the
Shirk from its foundation and all that which leads towards it – for those who
understand it. The Qur’aan is filled with many more evidences but many people do
not understand.
