Introduction:
Many people, both
in the east and the west, have been affected by the deviant methodology of
al-Ikhwaan al-Muslimoon, namely: “To cooperate in which they agree and to remain
silent in which they disagree or differ.”
This deviant
methodology is for the sole purpose of achieving political aims, even if it means
to do away with the core principles of Islaam:
1. To enjoin what
is good and forbid what is evil.
2. To love for
the sake of Allaah and to hate for the sake of Allaah.
One such
individual who has been heavily affected with this ideology is none other than
Yasir Qadhi, who will go any distance and use every opportunity to universally
unite the Sunnis with the Raafidhee Shia`s.
The concept of
uniting the Ummah is good but the methodology being applied is evil. How can
there be true unity when the differences are not only non-superficial, but they
run very deep. The differences are in `Aqeedah, Manhaj, Usool etc. The
difference is in understanding the whole concept of Islaam.
If one were to
unite with the Shi`ah only on the pretext that they believe in Allaah, then one
should understand that Mushriks of Makkah too believed in Allaah. But when it
was asked from them to abandon their false deities, they refused and thus the
Aayaat of Surah al-Kaafiroon were revealed, declaring disassociation and
disavowal from the Mushriks and Kuffaar. If merely believing in Allaah was
sufficient, then there would have been no discord between the Muslims and the
Kuffaar of Makkah and there would have been no wars; they would all have lived
in harmony, as in Makkah they were all from Quraish. So likewise, we cannot
unite with the Raafidhah till they abandon their false deities, and worship
Allaah alone and upon the Sunnah of His Messenger
When people are
upon falsehood, their unity will only be skin-deep. They would seem united but
their hearts will be divided, as Allaah تعالى
has mentioned in Surah al-Hashr.
This point and
many more have been discussed in detail in the following link:
Baraa’ah from Shirk is an
integral part of the Deen:
If one were to
read and understand the meaning of Surah al-Kaafiroon, one would learn that Baraa’ah
(disassociation and disavowal) - from Shirk and its people - is an inevitable
part of Tawheed and Ikhlaas (sincerity) towards Allaah. Rather, it is one of
the two pillars of the Kalimah al-Tawheed (لا إله إلا الله) – Disassociation (Negation) and Affirmation.
Example of
disassociation from Shirk:
{Say (O Muhammad): “But in
truth He (Allaah) is the only one Ilaah (worthy of being worshiped). And truly
I am innocent of what you join in worship with Him.”} [Surah al-An`aam (6): 19]
Example of
Disassociation from those who commit Shirk:
{Indeed there has been an
excellent example for you in Ibrahim (Abraham) and those with him, when they
said to their people: "Verily, we are free from you and whatever you
worship besides Allaah, we have rejected you, and there has started between us
and you, hostility and hatred for ever, until you believe in Allaah Alone.”} [Surah al-Mumtahanah (60): 4]
This is the
summary of what the scholars of Islaam have said:
Al-Baraa’ah is: Abhorrence, hostility, disassociation and distancing oneself
from Shirk and Mushrikeen – in their belief, their action and the places of
Shirk.
This is further divided into two parts:
1) Baraa’ah (disassociation)
from the action: And it is to
distance oneself from the actions and speech which are Shirk or Kufr or leads
towards them. This is an essential obligation.
2) Baraa’ah (disassociation) from
those who commit these actions: Disassociation from the commit the actions of
Shirk and Kufr (like grave worship, saint worship, exceeding in praising
individuals – claiming that they have certain powers and that they help Allaah
in governing His universe, whom they refer to as Qutubs and Abdaals, or the
belief that people or things other than Allaah can bring about a goodness or
avert a calamity, or that someone other than Allaah has the knowledge of the
unseen etc). From these people are the Atheists, Raafidhah, the Soofees
(Chishtees, Naqshbandees, Barelwees and their likes).
The methodology of disassociating oneself from these two
categories is based on the following Hadeeth:
Abu Sa`eed Al-Khudree رضي الله عنه reported: the Messenger of
Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Whoever amongst you sees an
evil, he must change it with his hand; if he is unable to do so, then with his
tongue; and if he is unable to do so, then with his heart; and that is the
weakest form of Faith.” [Saheeh Muslim (79)]
A) Disassociation with the heart: It is to have
hatred towards Shirk and the Mushrikeen - and it is the least one can do.
Hating them with one’s heart and despising them for the acts of Shirk and Kufr
they commit – the Jews, the Christians, the Hindus, the Raafidhah, the
atheists, the grave worshiping Soofees. This is part of loving and hating for
the sake of Allaah. It is an obligation upon every Muslim to hate them; one’s
Imaan is not complete without fulfilling this. One example has already been
mentioned above from the story of Ibraaheem عليه السلام.
Another example is of the heavens and the earth:
وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ الرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَلَدًا
* لَّقَدْ جِئْتُمْ شَيْئًا إِدًّا * تَكَادُ السَّمَاوَاتُ يَتَفَطَّرْنَ مِنْهُ وَتَنشَقُّ
الْأَرْضُ وَتَخِرُّ الْجِبَالُ هَدًّا * أَن دَعَوْا لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ وَلَدًا
{And
they say: “The Most Beneficent (Allaah) has begotten a son (or offspring or
children) [as the Jews say: `Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allaah, and the
Christians say that He has begotten a son [`Iesa (Christ)], and the pagan Arabs
say that He has begotten daughters (angels, etc.)].” Indeed you have brought
forth (said) a terrible evil thing. Whereby
the heavens are almost torn, and the earth is split asunder, and the mountains
fall in ruins, That they ascribe a son (or offspring or children) to the
Most Beneficent (Allaah).} [Surah Maryam (19): 88-91]
Even if we don’t hate them, they still hate us and our religion, as
{They (the disbelievers, the Jews and the Christians)
want to extinguish Allaah's Light (with which Muhammad has been sent) with
their mouths, but Allaah will not allow except that His Light should be
perfected even though the Kaafiroon (disbelievers) hate (it). It is He Who has
sent His Messenger (Muhammad) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islaam),
to make it superior over all religions even though the Mushrikoon (polytheists,
pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah) hate (it).} [Surah al-Tawbah (9): 32-33 and see also Surah
al-Saff (61): 8-9]
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Maalik I heard the
Messenger of Allaah
say: “He who
professed that there is no one worthy of being worshiped except Allaah and made
a denial of everything which the people worship beside Allaah, his property and
blood became inviolable, and his affair rests with Allaah.” [Saheeh Muslim (34)]
[Note: Hating them does not mean that one can do
injustice towards them. Our hatred towards someone should not prevent us from
doing justice. Our hatred towards someone should not prevent us from being
kind, from doing the right thing, from giving them their rights.]
B) Disassociation using the tongue: Opposing Shirk and
its people with the help of the tongue, arguing with them in a way that is best
and establishing evidence against them, clarifying their doubts, and clearing
their misconceptions.
The evidence for this is the saying of Allaah
{Say
(O Muhammad to these Mushrikoon and Kaafiroon): "O Al-Kaafiroon! “I
worship not that which you worship… (till the end of the Surah)} [Surah al-Kaafiroon
(109)]
{Say}: meaning with your
tongue and as Ibraaheem عليه السلام said to his people:
وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ
وَقَوْمِهِ إِنَّنِي بَرَاءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ
{And
(remember) when Ibraaheem said to his father and his people: “Verily, I am innocent
of what you worship…} [Surah al-Zukhruf (43): 26]
This too is an obligation upon the Muslims to the best of their
abilities.
C) Disassociation through
actions: Disassociating with them
using the limbs by distancing away from them, striving against them with the
limbs, warding off their harms physically. Example is the saying of Allaah تعالى:
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ جَاهِدِ الْكُفَّارَ
وَالْمُنَافِقِينَ وَاغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ وَمَأْوَاهُمْ
جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَبِئْسَ
الْمَصِيرُ
{O Prophet!
Strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be harsh against
them, their abode is Hell, - and worst indeed is that destination.} [Surah
al-Tawbah (9): 73 and Surah al-Tahreem (66): 9]
This is an obligation upon the Muslims only when they have the ability.
