{And certainly, We shall test
you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives, and fruits}
[Surah al-Baqarah (2): 155]
Contemplate that Allaah تعالى said: {We shall test you with something of
fear…}, meaning: ❝Indeed, We will test you with
something light of fear…❞
[Tafseer Muyassar]
Meaning: If Allaah تعالى Willed, He would have tested us with something more difficult, but He تعالى, out of His infinite Mercy, tests us with things that are within our capacity to bear.
{Allaah does not burden any human being with more than he is able to bear}
[Surah al-Baqarah (2): 286]
Then what did Allaah تعالى say after this? Did He تعالى said: “We condole them for their suffering and loss?” No! Rather, He تعالى said:
{but give glad tidings to
al-Saabireen (the patient ones, etc.)}
[Surah al-Baqarah (2): 155]
We are being afflicted with the loss in our wealth, children, and family. Is there any joy in losing a thing? Is there any fun in the suffering? Yet Allaah تعالى says: {give (them) glad tidings}!
There is no fun or joy in losing and suffering, but what comes after this is beyond comprehension, because the reward for those who bear this with patience is without measure:
إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُم بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
{Only those who are patient
shall receive their rewards in full, without reckoning}
[Surah al-Zumur (39): 10]
Who are the Saabiroon? They are the ones who, when afflicted with a calamity, say:
الَّذِينَ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالُوا إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
{Who, when disaster strikes
them, say: “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”}
[Surah al-Baqarah (2): 156]
Ok, so what is their reward?
{Those are the ones upon whom
are Salawaat (blessings) from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the
[rightly] guided.}
[Surah al-Baqarah (2): 157]
In this Aaya Allaah تعالى mentioned three tremendous rewards for them in this life:
1. Salawaat:
meaning: Allaah تعالى
will praise them in front of the Angels, raise their status, and forgive their
sins.
2. Mercy: Through His Mercy, Allaah تعالى enables the people to
be patient, by the virtue of which they will attain a perfect reward.
3. Guidance: It is the light with which they can
identify the truth and follow it; and identify the falsehood and shun it.
[See Tafseer al-Sa`dee and Tafseer of Ibn al-`Uthaymeen]
Allaah gathered for them three rewards: Salawaat, Rahmah, and Hudaa. And these three are a great blessing. So, what we are gaining in return for our loss is greater than what we have lost. And what Allaah تعالى has stored for us in the Hereafter is even greater in reward.
