Brief Comments on Riyaadh al-Saaliheen #4

The forgotten Sunnah:
(The 2 Raka`aat after coming from the Journey)

Shaikh Ibn al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

“A person, whenever he returns back to his home town (after completing a journey), should approach the Masjid first before he enters his house, and should offer 2 raka`aat in it; because this is the Sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, (which is confirmed) from his statements and his actions. [1] And I do not think anyone today follows this Sunnah except a few people - and it is due to the ignorance of the people about this Sunnah, otherwise it is very easy to follow, Wal-Hamdulillaah.

Huqooq al-`Ibaad (Rights of the Servants)

Shaikh Ibn al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله  said:

“Whenever you commit a sin, if you turned towards Allaah and repented (for your sins), Allaah will forgive you. But, if the sin was concerning someone else, then no doubt that redemption should be made for (transgressing) his rights, either by honoring his rights [1] or by requesting him earnestly to absolve you, because it is the rights of a human being which will not be forgiven. Atonement for Backbiting

Question: If a person backbites another person behind his back (i.e. while that person is not present) in a gathering, how can one atone for that?

Reward of going to the Masjid

Shaikh Ibn al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله commented on the saying of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:

"And this is because if he performs ablution and does it perfectly and then proceeds to the Masjid with the sole intention of praying, then for every step he takes towards the Masjid, he is upgraded one degree in reward and his one sin is taken off (crossed out) from his accounts till he enters the Masjid" [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (477, 2119) and Saheeh Muslim (1065)]

The Number of Times the Trumpet will be Blown

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله said:

“The Trumpet [1] will be blown two times – and this is the correct (opinion): (The first) blowing will cause terror and make people swoon [2]; and (the second) will be blown for the Resurrection [3], as has been evident from the text of the Qur’aan. And the opinion that the Trumpet will be blown three times is weak [4].”

Removing the Doubts: The concept of “Haraam Maut” (Unlawful Death)

Growing-up I used to hear that whenever a person died in an accident, some people would term it as “Haraam maut”, literally meaning that the person – who met a sudden end due to an accident - died at a time when he was not supposed to have died.

Trials are a sign of goodness

The following Ahaadeeth are all taken from Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth al-Saheehah of Shaikh al-Albaanee

143. It was narrated from Mus`ab bin Sa`d that his father, Sa`d bin Abu Waqqaas رضي الله عنه said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allaah which people are most severely tested?' He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: 'The Prophets, then the next best and the next best. A person is tested according to his religious commitment. If he is steadfast in his religious commitment, he will be tested more severely, and if he is frail in his religious commitment, his test will be according to his commitment. Trials will continue to afflict a person until they leave him walking on the earth with no sin on him.’”

Ruling on playing the recording of the Qur'aan to ward off Shaitaan

Question: What is the ruling on playing a recording of the Qur’aan in the house and there is no one to hear it, arguing that it pushes out the Shaitaan from entering the house?

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله answered:

“I do not know of any basis for that.” [1]

Source:

[1] What is confirmed from the Sunnah is that the person recites the Qur’aan himself like the aayat al-Kursee, the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah etc. One example is the following Hadeeth:

It was narrated that Abu Mas`ood al-Ansaari رضي الله عنه said: “The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: ‘Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah at night that will suffice him.’” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (4723) and Saheeh Muslim (807)]

Mercy is of 2 Types

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله said:

“Mercy (الرحمة) is of two types: Mercy which is one of the attributes of Allaah سبحانه وتعالى like all the other attributes which are to be affirmed for Allaah تعالى without Tahreef (changing the meaning), and without Ta`teel (rejecting), and without Takayyif (describing them), and without Tamtheel (likening them to the creation).

Impermissibility of slaughtering near the graves

Weakness of the Hadeeth: Virtues of Surah al-Hashr (59)

Fatwa of Shaikh Ibn Baaz

Question: Assalaam `alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. I ask you about this Hadeeth if it is Saheeh or Dha`eef: on the authority of Ma`qil bin Yasaar on the authority of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم that he said: “If anyone says on entering the morning: ‘I seek refuge in Allaah the all-Hearing the All-knowing from the accursed devil’, three times and recites the last three verses of Surah al-Hashr (59) then Allaah deputes over him seventy thousand angels who pray for his forgiveness till the evening. And if he dies during the day, he dies as a martyr. And, if anyone recites it in the evening then (too) he is of the same station.” What is the authenticity of this Hadeeth?

Shaikh Ibn Baaz: Ruling on saying "in shaa-Allaah" in the supplications

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله was asked about the saying of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:

لَا بَأْسَ طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

“Don't worry, Allaah willing, (your sickness will be) expiation for your sins.” [1]

So is it allowed to say “in shaa-Allaah” in the du`aa?

The Test of "Fear"

Fear plays such an important role in everyone's life - fear of hunger, fear of poverty, fear of losing wealth, fear of failing in exams, fear of death, fear of losing someone or something, and the list goes on - no wonder that the first thing Allaah mentioned with which He will test us is FEAR.

Allaah تعالى says: {And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Saabirûn (the patient).} [Surah Al-Baqarah (2): 155]

And the antidote for every type of fear is Tawheed (worship of Allaah alone). Security is only possible when the commandments of Allaah are obeyed.

Allaah تعالى says: {It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their Belief with Zulm (wrong, i.e. by worshipping others besides Allaah), for them (only) there is SECURITY and they are the guided.} [Surah al-An`aam (6): 82]

He تعالى also says: {Allaah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the land, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islaam). And He will surely give them in exchange a SAFE SECURITY after their FEAR (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Faasiqoon (rebellious, disobedient to Allaah).} [Surah al-Noor 24): 55]

None but will be shown his place in Hell & in Paradise

In the saying of Allaah

{Lest a person should say: “Alas, my grief that I was undutiful to Allaah, and I was indeed among those who mocked.” Or he should say: “If only Allaah had guided me, I should indeed have been among those who have Taqwa.” Or he should say when he sees the torment: “If only I had another chance, then I should indeed be among the doers of good.”}

Imaam Ahmad recorded that Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه said: “The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“Each of the people of Hell will be shown his place in Paradise and he will say: “If only Allaah had guided me!” so it will be a source of regret for him. And each of the people of Paradise will be shown his place in Hell and he will say: “If it were not for the fact that Allaah guided me,” so it will be a cause of thanks. Then the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم recited: {Lest a person should say: “Alas, my grief that I was undutiful to Allaah}

[Musnad Ahmad (10274), Mustadrak al-Haakim (3558) and the wordings are his. Al-Haakim said: “It is Saheeh as per the conditions of the Shaikhain (al-Bukhaaree and Muslim)” and al-Dhahabee agreed with him. It was also graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (2034)]

Sisters! Watch your step

Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “It is not for the women (to walk in) the middle of the path.” [Saheeh Ibn Hibbaan (5717) and graded as “Hasan li ghairihee” by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (856)]

On the authority of Abu Usayd رضي الله عنه that he heard the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم say when he صلى الله عليه وسلم was coming out of the Masjid, and men and women were mingled in the road: “Draw back! For you must not walk in the middle of the road; keep to the sides of the road. Then women were keeping so close to the wall that their garments were rubbing against it.” [Sunan Abu Dawood (5272) and graded as “Hasan li ghairihee” by Shaikh al-Albaanee (2/537)]

And today we have women not only walking in the middle of the path, but a group of them together will even block the path in the shopping malls and other places.

Hadeeth: The Prophetic method of uniting the people.

Unite in your rows, Allaah will unite your hearts. If you want to clear the differences between you and your brother (in Islaam), pray standing closer to him - shoulder to shoulder, ankle to ankle - and Allaah will remove the differences. When people stopped praying closer to each other, they allowed the Shaitaan to creep in between their hearts. It is like even in congregation, we pray individually.

Straightening the Rows

Chapter No. 94 from Sunan Abu Dawood.

Hadeeth: 2 Fears & 2 Securities.

Shaddaad bin Aws رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

<< قال الله عز وجل : {وعزتي لا أجمع لعبدي أمنين و لا خوفين ، إن هو أمنني في الدنيا أخفته يوم أجمع فيه عبادي ، وإن هو خافني في الدنيا أمنته يوم أجمع فيه عبادي} >>

“Allaah عز وجل said: {By My Honor! I will not gather together for My servants two fears and two securities. If he feels safe from Me in this world, I will scare him on the Day when I will gather my slaves (i.e. Day of Resurrection); and if he fears Me in this world, I will make him feel secured on the Day when I will gather my slaves.}”

Tafseer: {Why should Allaah punish you if you are grateful and have believed in Him?}

A tafseer by Ibn Katheer, al-Qurtobee, al-Baghawee and al-Sa`dee رحمهم الله جميعا on the saying of Allaah تعالى:

{يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَتَّخِذُوا الْكَافِرِينَ أَوْلِيَاءَ مِنْ دُونِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَتُرِيدُونَ أَنْ تَجْعَلُوا لِلَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ سُلْطَانًا مُبِينًا (144) إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِي الدَّرْكِ الأَسْفَلِ مِنَ النَّارِ وَلَنْ تَجِدَ لَهُمْ نَصِيرًا (145) إِلا الَّذِينَ تَابُوا وَأَصْلَحُوا وَاعْتَصَمُوا بِاللَّهِ وَأَخْلَصُوا دِينَهُمْ لِلَّهِ فَأُولَئِكَ مَعَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَسَوْفَ يُؤْتِ اللَّهُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا (146) مَا يَفْعَلُ اللَّهُ بِعَذَابِكُمْ إِنْ شَكَرْتُمْ وَآمَنْتُمْ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ شَاكِرًا عَلِيمًا (147)}

{O you who believe! Do not take disbelievers as friends instead of believers. Do you wish to offer Allaah a manifest Sultan against yourselves? Verily, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depth (grade) of the Fire; no helper will you find for them. Except those who repent, do righteous good deeds, depend on Allaah, and purify their religion for Allaah, then they will be with the believers. And Allaah will grant the believers a great reward. Why should Allaah punish you if you have thanked (Him) and have believed in Him? And Allaah is Ever All-Appreciative (of good), All-Knowing.} [Surah al-Nisaa’ (4): 144-147]

The 4 Signs of Protection from Allaah's Punishment

Makhool رحمه الله said: “Four things, whoever has them, they are for his own advantage; and three things, whoever has them, they will be against him (and will be for his own disadvantage). The four things are: الشكر (Shukr - thankfulness), الإيمان (Imaan - Faith), الدعاء (al-Du`aa’ - supplication) and الاستغفار (al-Istighfaar - seeking forgiveness). Allaah تعالى says:
