3 things prevent the deeds from being accepted

Bilaal bin Sa`d رحمه الله said:

"Righteous deeds are not accepted along with (these) three things:

1. Shirk (major and minor).
2. Kufr,
3. Opinion."

He was asked: "what is 'opinion'"?

He said: "Ignoring the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم and acting upon ones own opinion."

[al-Hilyah (5/229)]

A gift to all those who accuse Shaikh al-Albaanee of Irjaa'

This post is a reply from the daughter of Shaikh al-Albaanee in defense of her father to all those who accuse him of Irjaa’ [1].

Comments of my Father, the Imaam, Al-Albaanee رحمه الله on the Hadeeth: “Hasten to perform (good) deeds…”

All praise be to Allaah, and the blessing and peace be upon the final Messenger of Allaah, Muhammad, and his family and companions and those who follow his path.

Attaining "Siraat al-Mustaqeem"

In Majmoo` al—Fataawa (18/287-288), Shaikh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:

“Abiding by the Sunnah (of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) in (our) speech and in (our) actions, in all the matters pertaining to worship and habits, is from the perfection (and attainment) of the Siraat al-Mustaqeem (the straight path). And other than that, if it is not from the things that are prohibited (i.e. there is no clear text prohibiting it or allowing it), then (acting upon) it will be imperfect or less likely to be correct. Verily! The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم.”

Adhering to the Sunnah is better than merely doing more good deeds:

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

[Sharh al-Mumti` (1/406-407) of Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen]

Shaikh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

The evidence for this is what Abu Dawood رحمه الله has reported in his Sunan:

Two persons set out on a journey. Meanwhile the time of prayer came and they had no water. They performed Tayammum with clean earth and prayed. Later on they found water within the time of the prayer. One of them repeated the prayer and ablution but the other did not repeat. Then they came to the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم and related the matter to him. Addressing to the one who did not repeat, he صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

Defending the rights of Allaah is more important than the honor of any other creation

(Revised on December 18, 2013)

Defending the rights of Allaah تعالى and His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم and His Deen is more important than the honor of any other creation.

Narrated Abu Sa`eed al-Khudree رضي الله عنه, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Nay, the awe (fear/status) of people should not prevent a man from speaking the truth, if he knows it.”

[Sunan Ibn Maajah (4007) and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Oppression is darkness on the Day of Judgment”.

[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (2447) on the authority of Ibn `Umar رضي الله عنهما and Saheeh Muslim (6471, 6472) on the authority of Jaabir ibn `Abdullaah and Ibn `Umar رضي الله عنهم that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: (same as above)]

The Ill Effects of Storytelling

When the storytellers (e.g. Tableeghi Jamaat) are more and Hadeeth narrators are few...then know that it is the sign of beginning of our destruction. We ask Allaah for our safety and well-being.

It was related by Khabbaab ibn al-Aratt 1 that the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

إن بني إسرائيل لما هلكوا قصوا

“When Banoo Israa’eel fell into ruin, they began to tell stories.”

[al-Tabaraanee in al-Mu`jam al-Kabeer (7305) and Abu Nu`aim in al-Hilya (4/362) and graded as “Hasan”2 by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (1681) and in Jami` al-Sagheer (2045)]

al-Muhaddith Muhammad Naasir al-Deen al-Albaanee رحمه الله says in al-Saheehah (1681): He (i.e. Ibn Atheer) says in al-Nihaayah: ‘(When they fell into ruin, they began to tell stories) i.e. they relied upon speech and left off action; so this was the cause of their ruination, or, conversely, when they fell into ruin, they left off action and inclined toward storytelling.’

I say (i.e. al-Albaanee): It could be said that the reason for their ruination was the concern of their preachers with telling stories and tales without [imparting] Fiqh and beneficial knowledge that instructs the people in their religion, causing them to do righteous deeds. So when they fell into that (i.e. focus on storytelling), they were ruined. And this is the circumstance of many of the storytellers of our time, who the greater portion of their exhortations concern reports of Banoo Israa’eel, heart softening stories and Soofee legends. We ask Allaah for our well-being.

[1] Ibn Ḥajr رحمه الله mentions: “He is Khabbaab ibn al-Aratt al-Tameemee, Aboo `Abdallaah; he was from the first of those who accepted Islaam, and he suffered hardship for the Sake of Allaah. He was present at Badr and later settled in Koofah; he died there in the year 37H.

[2] Others who have authenticated this Hadeeth are:
- Al-Haithamee said in al-Majma` al-Zawaa’id (1/189): This was reported by al-Tabaraanee and its narrators are trustworthy, except that they differed about al-Ajlih al-Kindee but most of them hold him reliable.

- `Abdul-Haqq al-Ishbeelee said in al-Ahkaam: It is reported by al-Bazzaar from the Hadeeth of Shareek Ibn `Abdullaah and its chain is “Hasan”.

Being Trustworthy in conveying the knowledge

Being trustworthy is the adornment of `ilm and its soul which bears pure fruits, delicious in taste. If one were to look into the biographies of learned men, one would see that trustworthiness would be the distinguishing factor between them and those other than them.

From the causes of Fitan

Allaah تعالى says: {And let those who oppose the Messenger's (Muhammad's) commandment beware, lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant) should befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them.} [Surah al-Noor (24): 63]

Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما said: “(It may be that) Stones are soon to descend upon you from the heavens! I say to you: ‘Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said...’ and you say to me: ‘Abu Bakr and Umar said!?’”

Imaam Ahmad رحمه الله said: “Do you know what the Fitnah is? The Fitnah is Shirk. May be the rejection of some of his words would cause one to have doubt and deviation in his heart and thereby be destroyed.”

[The quotes of Ibn `Abbaas and Imaam Ahmad have been taken from Kitaab al-Tawheed of Shaikh Muhammad Ibn `Abdul Wahhaab, Chapter #38]

Shaikh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said: “Fitnah (trials and tribulations, destruction in the land) does not occur except when the commandments of Allaah are neglected. For He تعالى has commanded us to adhere to the Haqq (truth) and commanded us with Sabr (patience). So fitnah occurs either when the truth is neglected or when patience is neglected.” [Al-Istiqaamah 1/39]

Tafseer: {No by your Lord! They have no Faith...}

{We sent no Messenger, but to be obeyed by Allaah’s leave. If they, when they were unjust to themselves, had come to you and begged Allaah’s forgiveness, and the Messenger had begged forgiveness for them, indeed, they would have found Allaah All-Forgiving, Most Merciful. * But no, by your Lord (O Muhammad!), they can have no faith, until they make you judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission.} [Surah al-Nisaa’ (4): 64-65]

Islaam is Islaam!

Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

However, when a person thinks that referring back to the Book and the Sunnah will complicate the matter and make it difficult for the people and they will not be able to implement it – this type of thinking is bad and wrong. Some people think that the (laws of) Islaam which were (present) at the beginning of this Ummah are not suitable for the present times – and Allaah’s refuge is sought from this. Do they not know that Islaam governs and is not governed over? And that Islaam doesn’t change with the change in time or place or people? Islaam is Islaam! If we truly believe in Allaah and the Last Day, then we should refer back to the Book and the Sunnah.

Who are the "Ulul-amr"?

Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

Ulul-amr (those in authority) consists of the scholars and the rulers. The scholars are in charge of clarifying for us the religion of Allaah, whereas the rulers are in charge of implementing the Sharee`ah of Allaah. To implement the Sharee`ah, the scholars are in need of the rulers and the rulers are in need of the scholars. It is upon the rulers to return back to the scholars so that they clarify the Sharee`ah of Allaah to them. And it is upon the scholars to correctly advice the rulers and that they remind them of Allaah and that they instruct the rulers till they apply the Sharee`ah of Allaah among the slaves of Allaah عز وجل.

Importance of the Sunnah: a few points

1. Part of the belief of a Muslim is to believe in the Messengership of Muhammad

* The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Islaam is based on five (Pillars): To testify that none has the right to be worshiped except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah…” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree and Saheeh Muslim]

Ibn `Umar: "The Khawaarij behave like the Persians and the Romans"

1. On the authority of Nafi` that `Abdullaah Ibn `Umar رضي الله عنهما said:

“`Uthmaan (Ibn `Affaan رضي الله عنه) consulted me when he was under siege, he said: ‘What is your opinion about what al-Mugheerah bin al-Akhnas* رضي الله عنه has said?’

I asked: ‘What did he say?’

They Commit Shirk While They Know Not

All praise be to Allaah, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon His best of Messengers, Prophet Mohamed صلى الله عليه وسلم and his family and his wives and companions and those who follow them in truth till the Day of Judgment.

The following is the English translation of the treatise: يشركون وهم لا يعلمون. The purpose of this is to present to the readers a very brief explanation of Tawheed and its categories, and Shirk, its categories and what leads towards it so that it becomes a means of protecting oneself.

Can a Muslim commit shirk while he is unaware??!

Allaah تعالى said:

{وَمَا يُؤْمِنُ أَكْثَرُهُمْ بِاللّهِ إِلاَّ وَهُم مُّشْرِكُونَ}

{And most of them believe not in Allaah except that they also commit shirk (attribute partners to Him)} [Surah Yusuf (12): 106]

Will I be punished for my prayer?

Imaam Sa`eed bin Al-Musayyib* رحمه الله once saw a man praying more than two rak`aat after the beginning of Fajr (i.e. before the Fajr prayer), making many bows and prostrations, and so he forbade him.

The man said: “O Abu Muhammad, is Allaah going to punish me for praying?”

Sa`eed said: “No, but He will punish you for contradicting the Sunnah.”

[Al-Bayhaqee in As-Sunan Al-Kubraa (2:466) and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaykh Al-Albaanee. See Irwā Al-Ghalīl 2:236.]

Shaykh Al-Albaanee رحمه الله commented:

“This is one of the superb answers given by Sa`eed bin Al-Musayyib رحمه الله. It is a strong weapon against heretics (mubtadi`ah) who recommend many different types of religious innovation in the name of them being dhikr and prayer. They then criticize the followers of the Sunnah for criticizing them, and accuse them of censuring dhikr and prayers, when in fact (the Ahl Al-Sunnah) are only criticizing the contravention of the Sunnah in matters such as dhikr and prayer.”

* Sa`eed bin Al-Musayyib رحمه الله was a tabi`ee (the student of the Companions). He had narrated from `Aaishah, `Alee, Sa`d, `Uthmaan, Abu Moosaa, Ibn `Umar, Abu Hurairah, Ibn `Abbaas and others And his narrations are reported in the Saheehain (al-Bukhaaree and Muslim).

Forbidden words, containing Shirk, scattered amongst the masses

The following are the three main examples:

i. Saying: خير يا طير “Khair ya tair” (meaning: it is a good omen).

[In the Jaahiliyyah (days of ignorance) people used to take omen from the flights of birds. If one of them were to go on a journey, they would look at the flight pattern of the birds, if it was flying in a particular direction, they would say it is a sign of bad omen and delay the trip; and it was flying in another direction, they would accept it as a good omen and continue with their journey.
